Thanks!

Два момента - во-первых, тот, кто написал это, просто транслитерировал его с английского, а во-вторых, вы импортируете данные из внешнего источника. Прочтите osm.wiki/RU:%D0%98%D0%BC%D0%BF%D0%BE%D1%80%D1%82 и следуйте osm.wiki/Import/Guidelines и osm.wiki/Automated_Edits_code_of_conduct.

> Но если вы хотите проверить правильность написания например деревни Касл-Байтем, то вам надо зайти в какую-нибудь российскуй библиотеку и взять почитать "Великобритания и Ирландия. Указатель географических названий" за 2007 г.

Two points - firstly, whoever wrote that just transliterated it from English, and secondly you appear to be importing data from an external source. Please read osm.wiki/Import and follow osm.wiki/Import/Guidelines and osm.wiki/Automated_Edits_code_of_conduct .

Are you sure? What you're supposed to do is laid out in some detail at osm.wiki/Automated_Edits_code_of_conduct , including a "Document_and_discuss_your_plans" section. Can you explain how you followed that? As far as I can see almost none of it was, except for an initial discussion on talk@ (which met with a mixed reception).

What about previous changes, such as changeset/52369774 ? Was that a mechanical edit?

52427936

It was submitted 10 seconds after the previous changeset and 20 seconds before the next. That's unfortunately a common behaviour where people want to be seen to be doing "single" edits but in fact are just mechanically changing object after object without doing any sort of checks on what they're changing between uploads.

It depends how lax you want to be about data linkage. The WP article is about the thing the OSM node links to, so it's useful in that sense, but it's not about the OSM node itself. I don't think that it makes sense to remove the WP link since it's useful information here. If you want to do it properly visit the cave, map the underground bit and move both WP and WD links to that!

Can you answer the question?

Can you tell me where I can verify that Castle Bytham does indeed have a Russian name?

Anyone can make up a name for any place by any method they like. I could decide that London is actually called Fintlwoodlwix, and create a map showing that. It doesn't, however, make it a valid name for the place, since no-one there actually uses it. Next time I'm in Castle Bytham, where can I go to verify the name that you are using?

For info, I've just posted this to the BE forum:

https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?pid=665838#p665838

All feedback (from everyone who hasn't already commented) gratefully received.

Can you tell me where I can verify that Castle Bytham does indeed have a separate Russian name (as distinct from any transliteration?

52344226

How can I verify the tag "wikidata=Q4929299" on
node/26421469 ? Strictly speaking, the OSM node isn't the cave itself but the entrance to it (to be fair the cave itself isn't that far away).
Also, geographically this is a huge changeset covering a very large area. As a local mapper how do easily see what has changed near me in it without using external tools?

nyuriks,
You appear to be continuing with this mechanical edit despite being told to stop, and while discussion on the list and at e.g. https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?id=59910 is still going on. You appear determined to force your views on the OSM community despite the fact that discussion is clearly still ongoing.

Hello.
Can you explain what these "viewpoints" that you have added here are?
People have tried and failed to contact you previously about this ( http://resultmaps.neis-one.org/osm-discussion-comments?uid=4139826 and osm.org/user_blocks/1099 ) so please do reply.
Best Regards,
Andy

Hello Batareikin,
You've been asked by other mappers many times before to not add transliterations or data from unknown sources - see http://resultmaps.neis-one.org/osm-discussion-comments?uid=127299 for details. Please respect the wishes of the community. I'm sure for example that node/18712963 does not have a Russian name. Not every place has a name in every language. Any data consmer that wants to transliterate a name into a different script can of course do that - bt such transliterations do not belong in OSM.
Best Regards,
Andy Townsend, on behalf of OSM's Data Working Group.

Oops - here I think you've merged a bit of canal into a lock way/500381672/history so that the ref now applies to a huge length of canal.

52400509

Er - not only does node/4792387396 not have a Chinese name signed on it the actual name used here ("York Chocolate Factory") is actually incorrect.

52400667

I've never seen any Chinese signage on McArthur Glen York!

The wikipedia and wikidata entries on relation/2127054 look like the apply to the whole route (as far as Santiago de Compostela) not just this section of it near Mulhouse.

> , thanks to my efforts, thousands of major errors have been corrected
You keep saying this. Can you provide a list? I've seen very few fixes to OSM data in these changes.

Also, if wikidata and wikipedia IDs both identify the same object why add both? Just leave the human-readable one in OSM.
