Finished adding the Sishen-Saldanha railway line yesterday.

The >850km line carries iron ore to the deep water port of Saldanha.

Traced via Yahoo/Landsat, minor cleanups still needed.

Den nächsten Teil von Hackenberg abgelaufen. Die Strecken befinden dich in OSM, aber noch keine Beschriftung -kommt wenn der nächste Teil drin ist. Ein guter Teil der Strecke sind Treppen und Feldwege, deshalb ist die Strecke erheblich komplexer als die Karte in Google Maps -di noch dazu eine ganze Reihe von Fehlern aufweist....

It was a nice weekend, so managed to get another 80 road names. (As well as other details)
Then it comes to entering the data into OSM . . . /must/ .. /keep/ .. /eyes/ .. /open/. I think the convenience stores can wait until tomorrow to be entered!

Today I had traced the west side of Storkower Straße at the north side of Landberger Allee. I add the missing parts of the industrial area of Storkower Straße. Additionally I added some shops, restuarant and hotels at Forum Landsberger Allee.

I just realised a massively useful tool for Linux users: Utilise the Compiz zoom feature when tracing from low-resolution Yahoo maps.

I think it's super+scroll will zoom in and out of the desktop, and it makes it far easier to get a good grip on a difficult terrain. I think there's a comparable feature in Windows & Mac, so give it a try some time if you haven't already.

Edit: Also just added a number of streets in Narangba, QLD, Australia. I'm planning on visiting and GPS-ing a few of them tomorrow as the geo data seems to be a bit inaccurate.

And instead of complaining to myself about being bored or some areas not getting filled, I went ahead and traced a bunch of stuff in the Neufchatel area of Quebec City. Didn't add any street names, but did name a parc or two. Oddly enough, the parc at Charles-Auguste-Savard Community Center is given as "Savard Park" in several places, although the city website clearly identifies on a list of skating rinks as "Saint-André Park" (which is also the name I'd been assuming for it). For some oddball reason, the labels for Saint-André branch library and L'Escabelle schoolground show up twice in Osmarender...

I've also taken to map more land use. There are annoying holes that show up around community buildings and whatnots. I'm not clear whether to leave those off or add a landuse="institutional" or something like that (or simply shove them in residential). Furthermore, mapping landuses in areas that have a lot of small shops and stuff in an otherwise overwhelmingly residential area is giving me a headache. I probably COULD just break up the Saint-Émile core in four (virtually all shops and office are on de La Faune or Lapierre) and do away with a nasty multipolygon, but that would be overkill IMHO. However, without multipolygons, we get areas that are technically tagged simultaneously as residential and retail/commercial(I wish we just used "commercial". Separating those two tends to be a PAIN)/industrial. And there are still a number of shops/offices/parkings etc etc. that are not in the relation, cf. the Caisse Populaire, the community center and the local fast food joint. I'm seriously starting to think I should have kept to my primary interpretation of "landuse as very predominantly X". Or at least request a landuse=mixed tag ARGH.

so, es gibt viel zu tun über die weihnachtstage! ich habe tausende potenzielle fehler gefunden und gelistet.

zur erinnerung: es wird nach wegen gesucht, die an ihren enden andere wege fast berühren. und daher ist es wahrscheinlich, dass dort eine verbindung in form eines gemeinsamen nodes nachgetragen werden muss.

es gibt natürlich auch den fall, dass tatsächlich eine straße knapp vor einer anderen endet. ICH BITTE DRINGEND, WIE SCHON MAL AUF DER LISTE DISKUTIERT, DIESE MIT noexit=yes AUF DEM LETZTEN NODE ZU TAGGEN. dann werden die nicht ausgewertet! eine andere möglichkeit, dass darzustellen, wäre evtl. auch einen footway einzuzeichnen für das kurze stück. das sieht man dann beim editieren. und wie schon mal geschrieben: es wird (zumindest von mir) keine automatisierten updates (bot) geben.

weiterhin: die abstandsberechnung erfolgt derzeit noch ohne die brücksichtigung, dass die erde keine scheibe ist :-) also gibt es wahrscheinlich abweichungen in der z.b. von josm angezeigten und meiner berechneten entfernung. für die funktion des programmes ist das aber unwesentlich. ich schätze den fehler auf 0-30%. das programm kennt momentan zwei schwellwerte: 2m und 1m. alles unter 1m wird in der liste fett dargestellt. mal sehen, ob wir nach den ersten 10.000 korrekturen den schwellwert etwas nach oben setzen :-))

Добавих още няколко малки улички в Младост 1. Открих че имам лек проблем с XLST трансформация (когато използва файлове създадени не от Garmin-ския MapSource). Все още не всичко се показва (каква българска дума да използвам за render?) както очаквам. Отдавам го на неопитност.

I finished a mini-mapping project with David Dean last week. Yeronga was pretty poorly covered and now it's done (though of course it's never done, that's like saying software has no bugs or feature enhancements :~) ). It took us four visits, a few hours each time. I'm sure I could track down a tool to do a fancy animation.

One of my most favouritest parts of Yeronga is the magical lands of "O". It took us some time to find the cluster. David didn't believe it existed until the third night. Then we were truly O-struck:

Ive been translating a bit from the Austria Import project

As we can learn from the experiences of others.

I notice that each wiki project starts out in the native language of the region.

I was wondering if there is any kind of standard for translating the pages.

ie. Showing "EN: Before the title text"
As it's kind of hard to create a full and always uptodate wiki page in the other languages, as the native language page gets updated faster.

I would image an option would be to have a separate browser window open so to direct compare?

P.S. Oh ya, for the GeoBase update, im working on that Importing Government Data wiki page, but i think i'll change it to 'Importing Bulk Data'

The difference between this import and others is that the original source is also being updated on a yearly basis. So an update file of the changes will be available. ... So I try to make the wiki page reflect that.

I've added some footways and service ways in Berlin between Mollstraße and Karl-Marx-Allee. There are some service ways for the buildings made with precast concrete slabs. I also fix the name of the street between Bezirksamt Mitte and the housenumber Karl-Marx-Allee 3. Former the name was Weydemeyerstraße - I'll ask some residents between housenumbers Karl-Marx-Allee 5 and 11. They know the name of the street as Karl-Marx-Allee and not Weydemeyerstraße («Weydemeyerstraße? No, it's down there…»).

The crossing between Karl-Marx-Allee and Berolinastraße at Bezirksamt Mitte is closed for cars using bollards. I'll change the name from «Lichtenberger Straße» to «Platz der Vereinten Nationen» and add the missing car way between the two Weydemerstraße parts.

At least, I also add all housenumbers in the quater - the housenumbers of Weydemeyerstraße: chaotic.

I have made some amendmentss to the NCN route 72 around the Tyne Tunnel and Royal Keys to make the rout more accurate

I wonder if we could integrate this kind of information with OSM.

mir fällt auf, daß es ziemliche Uneinigkeiten über die Arten von Wegen gibt, leicht zu erkennen unter den verschieden gepunkteten Linien. Gibt es eine Seite, wo Hilfen stehen, wann man von was spricht. Hier am Niederrhein gibt es z.B. sehr viele asphaltierte Feldwege, die eventuell zu einem Hof fürhren, für Autos allgemein gesperrt sind. Oftmals werden die als residential road bezeichnet - macht das Sinn? Ich würde als residential Road eine Nebenstraße in einem Wohngebiet ansehen. Wie wäre dann die richtige Bezeichnung für die asphaltierten Feldwege?

Zweite Frage: Wie kommt man bei der Ansicht der Karten auf openstreetmaps.org auf die Legende?

Ayer estuve paseándome con el GPS en la mano por algunas calles cercanas, para después importar los datos y trazar las calles de mi barrio.
Lo que no sabía es que al andar cerca de los edificios la recepción de los satélites disminuye considerablemente, y luego el resultado acaba pareciéndose al vuelo de una mosca borracha.

En fin... T_T

Me he resignado a usar el GPS solamente en carretera. Ahora estoy usando la base de datos del Catastro y del PNOA (imágenes aéreas) que proporciona el Estado, y que por lo visto se pueden usar libremente.
Por lo que he estado viendo, las calles que ya estaban hechas coinciden casi a la perfección con la información del Catastro, así que estoy siguiendo el mismo método, acompañado del conocimiento REAL de las calles, ya que en algunas ocasionas (pocas afortunadamente) los datos no coinciden.

En el foro del Colegio de Geógrafos hay información de cómo añadir esas capas al JOSM: http://foro.geografos.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=10&start=20

Si alguien tiene alguna duda que me pregunte.

Espero que no tarden mucho en aparecer mis datos.

Habe gestern seit langem mal wieder mein Fahrrad ausgefahren und bin diverse Tracks bei der Geißköpfe und Kirschberg lang.

Wenn das Wetter besser ist, machts bestimmt mehr Spaß. --> 1Stunde fahren --> 3Stunden Bike putzen GRRRRR

Alles andere als vollständig nachgefahren, naja, aber ein Anfang ist gemacht.

Die Wanderung beginnt auf dem mittleren Hangweg und führt zum Hessenpark. Von dort geht es wieder zurück auf dem unteren Hangweg an den Alt-Obernhainer Quelle zurück zur Saalburg.
