I needed some exercise and daylight yesterday, so I hauled myself down the NCN to Stow-cum-Quy to explore the footpaths there. Found one from Quy Mill across to the village itself (intimidatingly, this one went through a working farmyard, which I walked through looking anxiously around for irate farmers). There was a tiny footpath in Lode that took me to the main road, which I walked down to get to my next port of call...

A "footpath" running mostly North out of Stow-cum-Quy was already stubbed. I knew there was a rather large gated road / track running up there (saw it on Yahoo imagery) and had assumed the footpath went either parallel to that or went off in some other direction. It turned out that the (enormous) concrete track actually *was* the footpath for some distance, until it eventually shrunk into a normal-sized path some way along. The footpath went really badly signed at that point and I ended up taking a path that looked probably private (there's a really big house there and I think I strayed into its grounds a bit too far!). I backtracked from the road and mapped the correct route.

Then followed a muddy path up beside Quy Water, through the Anglesey Abbey grounds and out at Lode Mill. I found a ridiculous number of paths in Lode itself, my GPS trace looked like a web spun by a caffeine-influenced spider. I think I got most of the paths within Lode but then had to stop and go home as it was getting dark and I had work to do.

Whenever I'm out mapping footpaths I always seem to find a load more I didn't know existed - will I ever run out?

I've just added a load of stuff around the university area. GPS reception is terrble, and so I've added pathways and buildings the best I can, but I want to keep revisiting this until I'm happy with it.

I also added a few streets on the way which were bugging me, there are more in that area that need adding but I would like to concentrate on inside the ringroad for now. The bit around the Town Hall needs some work doing, and there is also all the openstreetbugs that are listed.

I want to set myself a deadline for completing inside the ringroad, but I'm unclear as to how much still needs doing - it doesn't look like much, but I keep finding bits which haven't been mapped properly. We really need to spend some time looking at what is and isn't mapped in Bradford.

Just as I knew it has started, I have the source of gosmore and busy more than ever. Have started to map every single U turns all through the gurgaon roads and south delhi. The first edition of YOURS was of Nov 13. It had severe faults cause due to oneway tags placed wrongly or non connected ways. CP, Delhi is very bad in this matter. So did the job start. Have made some new roads in south gurgaon. also trying to understand the maxspeed tag and reaction of gosmore in that respect. Gave that tag to few ways and checking the difference of fastest and shortest routes.

cleaned oneway FIXME's on a stretch of Dot Ave (Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester) and West Broadway area So.Boston. Put the 'cut no cover' "Haul Road" down to level:-1, disconnected from crossing streets, and moved those up to bridge:yes, level:1, and split those streets not reconnected by bridge. And drew forced right hand turn on B Street onto W.2nd St.

Agreement Announcement (18 November 2008)

Announcement
The October OpenStreetMap Foundation meeting was held Tuesday 28 October 2008. The encouragement of GeoBase and their enthusiasm for OpenStreetMap led to their legal analysis of the licenses and a finding of compatibility. It was proposed that the GeoBase data be included in OSM based on the license compatibility and the aligned GeoBase and OpenStreetMap goals of providing free geospatial data to as wide an audience as possible. The proposal was passed by the board.
The OpenStreetMap community, the OSM Foundation and particularly Canadian contributors to the OpenStreetMap community have anticipated this announcement for some time. I'm sure that you will all join me in thanking GeoBase, the Foundation and the Canadian points of contact for their patience, persistence and vision.

Scope
The importance of this announcement is hard to over-state. The agreement between GeoBase and OpenStreetMap marks the contribution of government data from the second largest country on the planet, the largest country in the western hemisphere and the country with the longest coastline on the planet. The GeoBase data set is rich and diverse including the National Road Network, National Hydro Network (surface water), Geopolitical Boundaries, Elevation data and Satellite imagery. The scope of this contribution is unlikely to be surpassed in geographic area.

Hi!

startef today by trying to upload an edited .gpx from a garmin receiver. I used JOSM to change the gpx tag to a trail and uploaded it via the interface. When I check in the normam view tab, I can't see the trail. When I use the edit tab (potlach) the trail shows. Looks like an overlay over the yahoo aerial image. Any suggestions?

After I spent yesterday evening with referencing postboxes in my area (http://www.dracos.co.uk/play/locating-postboxes) I realised that there were still a lot missing. Then, a bit later that evening I had an idea: Postbox orienteering.
So, today I printed a map of the area and marked the approximate position of all the postboxes which I could not find yesterday evening. Then I set out for my postbox orienteering run. Whenever I found one of the postboxes I marked their exact location the map and jotted down the reference code.
12km later I had 12 new postboxes and finished a very nice run.

Just logged on for the first time and added a few street names near my house and my mum's house. I'm sure I can kill a few more hours at work filling in bits around old workplaces etc. I'll have to find out if there's any way of getting better satellite imagery of Milton Keynes in the background, I can add lot's of info there as that's where I grew up.

Was browsing around the map and fixed a few things. Added a route=ferry to a way where it was tagged as a relation, so it would be displayed on the map. Also fixed a strange gap in the Metro North railway. Apparently, this way was originally entered with the TIGER CFCC tag B21, which ("Railroad spur track, not in tunnel or underpassing") is not displayed on the map, whereas it was clearly a B12 ("Railroad main track, in tunnel"), though nowadays it appears to be a mere underpass.
