Wenn Du einmal damit anfängst ... Es geht ja gut an, aber dann merkst Du, was da alles für Kleinigkeiten in der Landschaft rumstehen und das kostet richtig zeit und Konzentration. Wenigstens erkennt man jetzt, dass Metzkausen schon ein Teil einer Stadt ist. ;-) Mit richtigen Straßen und Kirchen. Viele Straßen, Feld- und Waldwege gesetzt. Jetzt sind vier Traces hochgeladen, aber es werden wohl noch so einige folgen.

So, Heute habe ich mal eine Geocaching-Session aufgezeichnet. Das hat Openstreetmap ein paar neue Waldwege eingebracht.

Rund um Fahrenzhausen habe ich ein paar kleinere Dörfer eingeflegt und in Fahrenzhausen den Mühbach korrigiert (hatte letzes mal einen Fehler gemacht).

Es gibt jetzt an der B13 auch 3 neue Tankstellen.

Today i have uploaded my first tracks to openstreetmap. Recently i bought a Garmin RENO 530hcx which is normaly not available for German customers... but thanks to the internet shops in the USA:-)

Let´s see how it is going... may be i get out on the street tracking some streets in town. But first of all i will wait till my first track is shown on the page...

Started mapping the Acklam area South of Green Lane plus any odd bits of road that are not mapped as I travel around the town.

Laufstrecke über Golfclub, Illbeck, Ratinger Landstraße hochgeladen. Weitere Straßen im Dichter- und Denkerviertel und entlang der Laufroute ergänzt.

- L 475 zw. Barbecke und Söhlde sowie umliegende Verbindungen nach Steinbeck getraced und eingefügt.
- Feldwege südl. Vechelde zw. Köchingen, Vechelde und Wierthe getraced
- fehlende Straßennamen im Stapelacker in Vechelde ergänzt.

Ich habe heute in einer zwei-Stunden-Fußtour dieses Gebiet, in dem es rege Bautätigkeit gibt, getrackt und dann in Josm erfasst. Kleine Fußwege habe ich erst mal außen vor gelassen.

I had a nice day out with my folding bike in rural South Cheshire. I caught the 84 bus from Chester to Nantwich, and then the 73 further south to Hankelow. I then biked along all the minor roads in the area and ended up in Wrinehill, just into Staffordshire. After a pint in the Blue Bell I got the 85A to Crewe and then the 84 home. Buses make possible unidirectional journeys, which seem somehow more satisfying, and getting them for free (>60) also appeals.

At one stage I went for 500m through a field (on a right of way), so that I could do an efficient through route with the minimum of main road riding. The (already mapped) main trunk roads here tend to be fast, narrow and without footpaths, still less cycleways, and are a bit frightening on a bike. Whether rural main roads have footpaths or cycleways is well worth recording, but this should be done in tags, not by ways displaced 3m from the road . I have no qualms on riding on the footpath in such circumstances, even if it is both nominally illegal and desperately uncool.

mich hatt´s als alten Heise-Leser zum Openstreetmap-Projekt gebracht.

Nachdem ich mit Erschrecken feststellen durfte, das mein Heimatort Schauenburg-Hoof aus einigen rudimentären Eintragungen bestand, habe ich beschlossen diesen Zustand zu beseitigen ;-)

Ich habe also in den letzten drei Wochen das besagte Areal mit diversen Traces ergänzt. Grundlage zur GPS-Datenaufzeichnung ist ein Holux M241, der schon für das Taggen von Fotos vorhanden war.
Ich hatte den GPS-Logger schon die letzten Monate bei meinen ausgiebigen Foto-Touren fast immer dabei, kannte aber zu dem Zeitpunkt leider das OSM-Projekt noch nicht, demzufolge die .trl-Dateien nach dem Foto-Taggen leider entsorgt :-(

Ich bin zwar bei weitem noch nicht fertig, tue mich mit Bachläufen und unserer alten Eisenbahnstrecke, der Naumburger Kleinbahn noch etwas schwer, desweiteren fehlen noch sehr viel landuse-Eintragungen - aber es muss ja für die nächsten Wochen oder Monate noch etwas Arbeit übrig bleiben.

Die wohl häufigste "Beschwerde" in Kommentaren nach Artikeln über OpenStreetMap in den deutschen Medien der letzten Zeit ist wohl "da sind überall weiße Flecken".

Ich habe mal ein bisschen mit http://maps.yahoo.com/ herumgespielt und festgestellt, dass teilweise auch dörfliche Gegenden wirklich super Bilder haben. Also habe ich einfach mal 2 Dörfer von diesen Bildern gemappt: Straßen als "highway=road" & "source=yahoo aerial images" (o.ä.), Sportplätze, den Umriss des Dorfes als "landuse=residential". Für ein kleines Dorf ist es eine Sache von 5-10 Minuten. Sicher, Straßenname fehlen dann noch, aber da könnten zB die Bewohner des Ortes mit OpenStreetBug sehr einfach nachhelfen (nicht vergleichbar mit der Komplexität von den Mapeditoren).

Also, huschhusch, macht die Flecken streifig! Es bringt unglaublichen Spaß. :-)

PS: http://www.pledgebank.com/osmfieldwork habe ich mitgemacht und es hat mich ziemlich motiviert (die Möglichkeit die "Reise zu gewinnen" nicht berücksichtigt). Wäre das vielleicht auch etwas für ein Deutschland-Projekt? Also Spenden&Mappen in Gemeinschaft, kein möglicher Preis (außer jemand will das übernehmen)?

Spent a while (much more time than I intended!) tonight doing mapping around Cheltenham and Tewkesbury - the area in which I grew up!

I'm in Cambridge right now so I've been using a combination of the existing OSM coverage, NPE, Yahoo (the satellite imagery is of a very low resolution so it's not as helpful as I usually find it) and - to a large extent - my local knowledge from growing up there and from my later visits to see my parents. I've been able to add a load of POIs in the village of Prestbury. There are a fair number of new (since NPE) streets missing for this village and the Yahoo coverage isn't good enough to trace them. I'll have to take the GPS some time when I visit!

I've also added some place names and pubs between Bishop's Cleeve and Tewkesbury. I hope to be able to do a bit of more detailed mapping next time I'm in the area but I doubt I'll be able to do a huge amount. Makes a change to be working in another area, though.

Laufstrecke Metzkausen - Homberg - Hösel -Hofermühle - Homberg - Metzkausen eingetragen. Einige Anliegerstraßen im Dichterviertel von Metzkausen eingezeichnet. Schrieversweg und Heinrich-Heine-Gymnasium angegeben. Schade, dass im Yahoo-Satellitenbild eine Wolke über weiten Teilen von Metzkausen liegt, da fällt die Orientierung etwas schwerer.

Saw the article on the BBC News site, so thought I'd check out my area. Not a lot there. So I put a copy of BSGPSPDA on my phone and had a bit of a travel through the non-existent streets. JOSM is easy enough too and runs fine on Linux. Although I was caught out when I didn't close my BSGPAPDA log file correctly before exiting. A quick script easily converts the *.jny CSV files to a structured *.gpx file.

The whole thing seems like a nice idea, but I'm not sure how far it will get. There is no trace of a stream that runs through the valley near my home - and there is no way I'm trudging through it.

I've been doing a lot of work on address data and positioning with my job, so this sort of tool may be handy for a graphical display. But when Google has a far more accurate map, why use this? I couldn't expect anybody to rely on this as there are still so many major things missing.

Keep up the excellent quality of work, I'll try and add bits when I remember. It's quite an interesting thing to do for a while.

I was looking at the Toronto area. I returned to this website after a long hiatus due to work related reasons. Anyways, I was really surprised to see the amount of coverage in the Toronto area. A lot of the streets have been traced; not named though for whatever reason. I am doing this for my neighbourhood right now, and I will expand my efforts as time permits.

Is there a systematic effort underway for mapping Toronto, or did we upload Geobase or similar data? I found that large patches north of the 401 and west of the 400 have yet to be mapped.

Thanks for any clues.

Nach Befahrung mit GPS Straßen in Hörersdorf, Gem. Mistelbach eingezeichnet. Weiters den Mistelbach bis Hörersdorf weitergezeichnet. LH 3088 von Hörersdorf nach Asparn an der Zaya gemäß GPS-Trace korrigiert und den Radweg 5 von Asparn bis Mistelbach (Güterwege) eingetragen.

Added loads of new roads in the area around Galbally, which is just north of the Galtee Mountains.

Lots of the local main roads are already mapped, but everything else seems to be missing. Sadly, I'm only around for 2 days, and I'm going home tomorrow. However, I'll be back at Christmas and will do more if it's still the same.

Driving around collecting GPS traces has made an interesting change from updating Openstreetmap in London. After all, most roads there are done and it's all detail now (street names, one ways, etc). Over here, it's like a big blank canvas.

Mind you, the amount of times I headed up a side road following a road, only having to do a u-turn as I find myself in someone's yard. (Invariably, 3 or 4 men will be huddled over an car's engine, and all give me a very distrusting look as I turned the car round in front of them). On the plus side, I only once found myself in a dead end that I had to reverse out of.

Ich habe heute die Randwege des Friedhofs gegenüber von St. Audomar (südlich der Othmarstraße) erfasst, damit der Friedhof dort endlich mal vernünftige Ränder bekommt. Damals hatte ich das Landuse-Polygon nur frei Schnauze eingezeichnet.

Das Logfile habe ich übrigens mit meinem neuen OpenMoko Freerunner aufgezeichnet :-)
