No problem, you're all good.

Right. I believe the private=* tag adds that specificity / distinction, saying that the group allowed to access the access=private road is specifically military vehicles, not just anyone who has access to other parts of JBLM. Feel free to chime in on the discussion linked above and share your thoughts with the community. The main argument I've seen against access=military is that it opens up the possibility for even more values for the access=* family of tags—military-specific access, some argue, isn't really in scope for the access=* tag. For the general public, it's mostly the same as any other access=private.

You edit looks good. Thanks for the contributions.

You marked that the source of this information is aerial imagery — but that can't be correct as it's the building name/number that you added. Please make sure you accurately describe what your edits are based on (local knowledge? Some other source that is legal for use in OpenStreetMap?)

Thanks.

Thanks for confirming, I appreciate it. You edit looks good then!

Cool, good to know. Construction is painful, I feel for the residents :)

Sounds good then, thanks!

One note of caution, don't use Google's imagery or data when working on OpenStreetMap. There are copyright issues with doing so. If you're interested in that topic, see osm.wiki/FAQ#Why_don't_you_just_use_Google_Maps/whoever_for_your_data? — basically, there are some very hard rules, and then a lot of fuzzy boundaries (if you just reference it, is it really a derivative work, etc.). But with OpenStreetMap, we try to steer clear of anything legally ambiguous or in untested waters, because the project can't afford a lawsuit. Thanks for understanding.

Hey @Trod%20Skunk!

I was curious about the way you tagged this (access=military), so I consulted with other mappers and the consensus seems to be that we'd prefer to keep access=private but add private=military instead. See https://osmus.slack.com/archives/C2VJAJCS0/p1778175409888389 (https://slack.openstreetmap.us/ if you don't have an account).

I'll change the existing ones at JBLM; you can use the new tagging for any future edits. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Thanks!

Thanks. I think the description=* tags are redundant here because it adds no information that isn't already mapped.

You mapped this such that the gate is blocking not only 4th Avenue, but the sidewalk as well. I assume that's not what you intended, so I'll move the gate to be blocking 4th Ave only. Thanks!

Is there a gate for the trail? If so, the trail should likely be kept, with updated details as needed.

To be honest, it gets pretty subjective. The convention is typically that we tend not to map things separately if they aren't physically separated (by a curb, wall, etc.). But as you point out, the University Bridge is one example that goes against this convention.

I'd say, for cycle paths, you could map it separately if you want; just make sure you update cycleway:both=separate (or cycleway:left, cycleway:right). (I wouldn't use plain cycleway=* at all anymore, because it makes it less clear whether the tag refers to both sides of the road or just one.)

Thanks! Let me know if you have more questions—always happy to help where I can.

This looks good, thanks! The only thing I'm not sure about is informal=yes. Is this really a non-official ramp (did somebody pour it without official approval—guerilla street design!?)

The other thing is that this is probably more appropriately mapped as a highway=footway or highway=cycleway like the neighboring main paths it connects to. I updated that.

Thanks again for your contributions and welcome to OpenStreetMap!

Thanks. 2 questions:

1. Is this trail official or officially endorsed? If not, that's fine but it should be specified as such so that people know what to expect.

2. Is this shortcut really named "Iron Brigade Shortcut"? Generally, if there isn't a sign that says that is the name, it isn't really the name. Do people call it that in common speech?

Thanks again for your contributions and welcome to OpenStreetMap!

Thanks; we always appreciate people helping to make the data more accurate. Currently I don't see your business on here at all though—can you provide a brief description of what sort of business this is (car repair? Car seller??) and a link to a website if you have one? Then I can help out more.

Thanks for being awesome :)

You added a lot of parking spaces with access=publicznyhttp://www.sp1.nowytarg.pl/ -- was that a mistake? I'll remove those tags.

Honestly I think it would be better supported if they were separate ways. But, according to convention, the way to designate the entry-exit points is change:lanes=*

Never mind, looks like the lot is still there
