I should mention you don't need to apologize or correct this up front. Sorry for any inconvenience.

"So how could anyone know about Mapbox's being the current fashion, as you're now telling me after the fact?"
It's not a big deal that things are slightly misaligned. They'll firstly be used for statistics (proximity to needs, density etc.). Don't worry.

"all I get from HOT are messages pretending I don't know what I'm doing. (By the way, I am very far from a "new contributor." It's just a new account)."

They should be able to help you out. You're welcome to i.e. OSM World Discord as well for any help mapping.

Have fun mapping!

PS: You can help out on the latest edge matching task, which can be difficult for new mappers, but it should be just fine for you!

Hey abq_1,

Note, imagery can change through the years. Some imagery layers may be more up-to-date or accurate than others. For the current 2021 HOT Activation, data is being aligned to Mapbox. You can use other layers (here Maxar) to check your mapping -but not alignment-.
You can find imagery layers in the right sidebar/tab ("layer menu").

Consult the local community if you are ever unsure of which layers to use.

If you want to learn how to use alignments, which you don't need to do immediately as you are a relatively new user, see this wiki page:
osm.wiki/Using_Imagery#Binding_objects

Be careful when editing objects with relations. You should hold off on editing especially administrative boundaries and roundabouts until you get the hang of iD, switch to JOSM -recommended- and learn about how they work.

Hey Johan,

Most of this forest doesn't look that maintained and is located on a steep hillside. It may be better to use natural=wood here.

Daniel

"I know there is no need for tagging a hamlet or village as residential area. This also to improve visibility."

Could you elaborate, actually? Ignore the comment I made regarding this part.

"I know there is no need for tagging a hamlet or village as residential area. This also to improve visibility."

I did not specifically comment on this, but I think I might understand your point. I'll look into where the limit is on adding residential areas.

"I am working on it to check the traces of the highways which have often a serious offset and adjust them where it is necessary ."
In some countries, they truely are incorrectly offset and in most places they might not be accurate enough, or too accurate in fact.
In other areas, such as Haiti, a lot of roads were drawn using higher resolution imagery (in this case also drone imagery), which is likely on the correct offset. (You should already know how to handle this;
osm.wiki/Using_Imagery#Binding_objects )

"You are correct that I overlooked some buildings. I corrected that."
Don't feel obliged to map every building in the bush while your validating though.

"What is your function on this project?"
I'm a mapper and give feedback from time to time. I'm not with any group or organization.

Hey Frans,

You should map objects not specified in the task outside of said task. This speeds up validation. Mapping residential areas was not specified for mappers or validators.

Feedback: It looks like some of these isolated dwelling nodes were placed haphazardly.

For instance, have a look at node/9013818595/history
It is right next to other buildings -which you also assigned such a node to-, which are next to unmapped buildings, which in turn are right across from a plot which is part of a hamlet which you have mapped.
There is almost no land, let alone a plot, seperating these buildings from each other. Are each and every one of them isolated dwellings?

(If you have found something which is an isolated dwelling -1 or 2 buildings-, it only needs one node.
osm.wiki/One_feature,_one_OSM_element )

Make sure you're zoomed in enough so all objects are visible, compare with other imagery layers (here, Maxar) so you can see unmapped objects and check the tags' wiki pages, e.g.
place=isolated_dwelling
("[...] outside other settlements [...] form by themselves a settlement [...] must not consist of more than 2 households [...] For bigger settlements use another tag")

Daniel

Hey johanemilsson,

If you would like to map anything not specified in a HOT task, please do so outside of said task.
This makes it faster for mappers to map the task and easier for validators looking at changes.

Daniel

Hey Hassan Abdulsalam,

way/974775308
This building outline is way smaller than you have mapped it and includes 2 seperate, white buildings. The colors here are clearly different and the surface color is similar around it. You can check your mapping with Maxar. It can be found in the right tab (layer menu).
You did correctly align to Mapbox, btw.

Regards,

Daniel

PS: I have not reviewed your other changes, but the ones I've seen look okay.

Hey Niall_Kerr,

Please use and align to Mapbox. You can find it in the right sidebar (layer menu). You can switch to other imagery (Maxar) to check your mapping.

Daniel

Bonjour schneider,

Utiliser et aligner sur Mapbox, s'il-vous-plaît. Vous pouvez le trouver dans le menu des couches (barre latérale droite). Vous pouvez passer à d'autres couches d'imagerie pour vérifier votre cartographie.

Salutations,

Daniel

Please use and align to Mapbox. You can find it in the layer menu (right sidebar). You can switch to other imagery layers to check your mapping.

What license are these layers using exactly?

And, what about the Lidar and Contour layers?
Can we also use those in OpenStreetMap? If so, under the same license?

109778917

Hey PierZen,

What layers (it's CNIGS, btw) are you using exactly? What license and geographical extent does this have and would you have a link for the custom layers in iD and/or JOSM?

The existing links for CNIGS imagery through openstreetmap.fr don't seem to work anymore.

You did seem to have a compare website set up for both the 2014-2015 and 2016 imagery yourself, but the imagery layers no longer show up there neither.

Daniel
