If the name -be it english, gaelic, etc.- is no lnoger in common use, it is not used by OSM, except some old_name (or name:[year]) though this is better suited for OpeHistoricalMap.

It'd be better to consult the forums in any case.

It might be useful to read
https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/transliterations-of-names-to-other-scripts-than-latin/144050
and join or create a discussion there
as I personally can not provide any further ideas on how to best use name:* in practice.

141942125

Note OSM preferably has only names in common use.
osm.wiki/Names#When_to_avoid_transliteration

as mentioned above there might, if at all, be only a single source actually using it for this place.
though it is somewhat unfair to small islands because they are relatively lesser known.
I am unsure how appropriate it is using transliteration from B(another place by an official body on gaelic place names) if using it from place A(someone's knowledge of gaelic) rather than common usage is not okay.
It might be best to wait until this official body actually has a transliteration for this place which can be used as verifiable source
that being said I haven't read into how actively it assigns names.

Hey jSeke,

I would suggest removing the gaelic name you added in
changeset/179773330

As you now know, gaelic names are not always the local/common name.

The only website which seems to be using this name seems to be Am Baile, but it is possible they are using an openstreetmap-based geocoder.
(geographic name search engine)
https://www.ambaile.org.uk/gd/asset/10544/

Though if you can find a verifiable, preferably local source for this name, it is of course welcome.
(and perhaps other spellings exist in gaellic which I am not aware of)

Daniel

Hey EM_OSM,

way/1504170589
merged the two archaeological site areas.

You can see the changes at
https://overpass-api.de/achavi/?changeset=182884735

Guidelines
(these are guidelines, not set rules, they may be incomplete and there is room for interpretation, discussion and consensus with the local community and global forums)

- One feature, one OSM element
osm.wiki/One_feature,_one_OSM_element

It is a single archaeological site, originally/historically and in common current name -eventhough bisected physically by road or other features-, unless otherwise noted in HEV/NIAH/...

- map features independently where they do not follow current/existing features)

except ie. in part residential landuse
landuse=residential#Separation_from_roads

use separate areas only if actually needed and prefer using a multipolygon or site relation (unless the only common/different detail is ownership, rather than type/ref)

Daniel

I assume Inistioge Graveyard
relation/20706885
includes also this part of St Mary's?

Hey CrS19,

I have changed the geometry and tags in this changeset. Archaeological sites have their own tags.
You can see the changes at
https://overpass-api.de/achavi/?changeset=182786254
(copied wrong url, already fixed)

In iD, in the right sidebar, there is the Background layers menu (three layers) if you need more layers for reference. In the UK there is Digital Terrain Model (elevation) available.

Happy mapping.

Thanks for contributing to OpenStreetMap!

The relevant section for aerial imagery is here
osm.wiki/Pick_your_mapping_technique#Aerial_Imagery

Only east(right) of the river Barrow is Bing aerial imagery of good date and quality.
In this area, you should use the regular Esri aerial imagery for alignment.
Inside of Kilkenny ring road roughly, mostly Esri Clarity is used for alignment (but it is old, 2011!).
You can try aligning with existing geometry, though not all may be properly aligned as it was mapped in the previous decade when imagery was less available to OSM.
Keep in mind if you continue mapping you may need different offsets or no offset at all. You can also not easily save offsets between sessions.
Once you are comfortable with iD, you could switch to JOSM for more advanced editing features.

If there is/will be a shop, could you link to where it mentions this please?
Otherwise, I assume 'shop' is a typo for 'workshop' in your last comment.

Entrance is exit only based on red text sign, or handle positions, or ...?
There are at least two handles both outside on each door left/right, similar to main entrance.
Red text on sign is unclear from streetlevel imagery.

First comment about bus stop lifecycle prefix also remains.

Changed entrance tag shop => yes
There is currently no (longer) a shop here, nor a workshop facility.
It is maybe still used as private shed, but not as workshop as far as I can see.

Hey Victor,

I see you are using also Panoramax now, so you should be familiar with how to open these links.
If you have time, could you have a look at above comments, please?

Sure
changeset/181904971

181836898

node/39020531
has only mapillary tag added

node/2765191310
Shop should no longer exist, even at time of this changeset; according to various articles the brand was bankrupt, the shops were closed(except Veenendaal which might have still had some leftovers), though it was acquired and continued as webshop with promise of additional items -not sure it website was ever available, it now redirects to possibly malicious website instead of clothing items-, but perhaps some signage remained, or they independently decided to sell leftovers or continue somehow (similar to Blokker shops).

Daniel

Vespucci does not seem to have a hotkey to higlight changed/edited objects. (nor does Go Map!! editor)

Before uploading changes, entries on the list of the created, changed and deleted elements can be selected and the actual changes inspected. Elements that have failed the validator tests will have a red icon displayed.
You can choose to upload only some objects but not others.

The info display for selected elements will show the original state of the element side by side with the current state if the element has been modified. (as of v11 / 2018)
The review modal will be retained even if a previous element version is selected. (as of v21.2 / 2025) It is planned to allow opening it in a separate window (useful for tablets).

You can choose to save a JOSM / OSC file locally(, clear data, do other edits, upload them), open the file later and resume the previous session as such.
If you save a JOSM / OSC file, load it and select a changed object, it will return "Element has been modified, but there is no local prior state to compare to" (as of 2025-06). It is planned to add augmented diffs so some history becomes available.

If you have left a changeset open after an upload, you can close it before the next upload with an option in the upload dialog. (as of v14 / 2019)

In the properties panel, changed/autofilled keys/values are not highlighted, as it requires much memory and storage. It is not planned to do so currently, as it is a major change (to the requirements).

If needed, you can create todos. See
[Notes, Bugs and Todos](https://vespucci.io/help/en/Introduction/#notes-bugs-and-todos)
