Changeset When Comment
128221809

Hello,
I've added "equestrian" to way/1108015858/history based on the Bing imagery. I can't imagine that it is anything else...

Andy

Thanks - I've moved the tags over (and removed the building tag) and removed the old site relation. As you say, nothing really understood it.

See https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/tagging/2022-December/066664.html for links to the background.

As osm.wiki/Proposal_process makes clear, "a vote result is never permission for large-scale re-tagging of existing objects". The use of maproulette in this way is essentially an automated edit by other means. However, as I said in the list post above, it doesn't make sense to revert back to where we were many months ago.
In future, edits such as this should be discussed, and had this one been discussed as an automated edit I'm sure that it would have been approved.

Hello,
The only two things that didn't revert cleanly were way/363539869/history which has been subsequently edits and since deleted, and the Luas Red Line relation relation/3616737 , also since edited.
Is everything OK now?

Andy

> What amended objects have reduced the quality of the OSM database?

The immediate one I spotted was way/312307713 . Previously it was "leisure=pitch; sport=rugby_union". The extent of the rugby pitch was mapped by me from the Bing imagery the day before your changeset here, based on a survey earlier in the month. Even if you thought the imagery was unclear it's pretty obviously a rugby pitch - it's named after Laurence Dallaglio who's a famous alumnus and went on to much success with in English rugby (even if he allegedly, as the pub story goes, struggled to get in the first team at Ampleforth!)

https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/1pqG shows that you introduced a unique tag combination in this edit.

I asked "Can you explain what you actually did?". You replied "The changeset was open for over an hour ... restricted to not cross borders, bodies of water or continents", none of which answered the question, so:

Can you explain what you actually did?

Hello,
I've never been there, but I'm guessing way/1066737782 should be "Post Office Cottage" rather than "Post ffice CottageO"?

Hello,
Just checking, way/394469304/history lost its amenity tag in this edit. Maybe it closed, or maybe it's not something else?
Best Regards,
Andy

Actually it was checking the data that got me to this changeset :)
Can you explain what you actually did?

What logic did you use to "Convert large pitches into recreation grounds"? It sounds very much like a mechanical edit that should be reverted, unless you checked each feature and made sure that it really wasn't a pitch, but was something else.

> When I draw a line along a path on the imagery

The problem is that people don't know that that is what the changeset does until they have looked at it.

That is what changeset comments are for - to help people see what a changeset does without looking in detail.

Customer foot access west from the hall to Hall Lane was checked with reception.

You have said that you used "USGS Topo maps" as your source for the change to way/1033978504 . The name "Spearhead Mountain Road" does not appear on the "USGS Topo maps" that are visible within iD. Where did you see it?

You didn't though, did you?

Bonjour,
Je suppose que "tand_up_bench" devrait être "stand_up_bench" ici ?
À votre santé,
Andy

101214312

Hello,
I'm guessing that "tand_up_bench" should be "stand_up_bench" here?
Cheers,
Andy

Hello,
way/301517090/history has "bench=yes;no" and "shelter=yes;no". Which should it be?

> "A40 Golden Valley Bypass,"

Yes - that's a description. It doesn't mean that it's an actual name. It certainly doesn't explain your use of the name as far as Gloucester.

> OS may not recognise the name but it certainly is used.

As I said above, "Golden Valley" is a suburb and the name is also used locally to refer to the bit of the A40 between Cheltenham and the M5 (hence me suggesting "loc_name" above). I've never heard ""Golden Valley bypass" used other than as a description and I've never heard ""Golden Valley Junction" used at all.

102979808

Thanks - I've merged these; the imagery is pretty clear and there are only 2 ways heading east. There's a hint of a gate on the southern bit, so I've moved that over there too.
As a bit of background to the "According to the wiki", "byway" is an old legal definition (actually 2 different legal definitions now) for a class of right of way in England and Wales, and has no bearing on the physical type of road - "designation" is used for the legal definition in OSM now.

102979808

Ah, so you've never actually been there? No problem, I'll have a look on the imagery and see what needs merging.

124020874

I'm somewhat familiar with the area as I have friends who lived there, and have driven the stretch of road from the M5 into Cheltenham lots of times.

The name "Golden Valley" is used to refer to the general area and (sometimes) by association to the road from Cheltenham to the M5. It's no more than a loc_name though, if that.
The name is absolutely not "Golden Valley Bypass", and that is even more wrong for the Gloucester / M5 link.
I suspect that the motorway junction is not called "Golden Valley Junction". Perhaps Falsernet can provide some photographs backing up this name? If not, then it should be removed.

For the information of all, this isn't the first time Falsernet has used dubious names:

http://resultmaps.neis-one.org/osm-discussion-comments?uid=13341565

includes notes about some names that are literally just made up. Obviously those edits were a while back (as was this edit) so hopefully that isn't happening any more.
Best Regards,
Andy
