Silos. Map ‘em. As many as you can. Lovely round, tall silos. Almost never singular. Search for them in farmyards, along railroads. Bonus points for mapping the elevator, truck scales, other assorted buildings and even adding operator.

ooo I do like a good silo. Do you have a few locations that have the other non-silo features mapped well so I can get a better sense of those?

Thanks for the comment. I wish I knew a good example of a grain elevator complex that’s already well-mapped. I don’t always pay close attention to well-mapped areas. Again, with the nature of most OSM contributors, agricultural infrastructure doesn’t get much attention. I would thought the railfans might have gotten into the mix as many larger elevator complexes are associated with rail terminal facilities

Here’s an ethanol plant where the grain silos are inappropriately mapped as “storage tanks”: osm.org/#map=17/42.593713/-89.668636 and another where the silos aren’t mapped at all, however the rail yard is exquisite: osm.org/#map=17/43.281652/-84.569874
