Helping government agencies and responders with basic data needs: we’re providing this through the UN’s Humanitarian Data Exchange, among other ways. Helping to Identify populations living in places most at risk: prioritizing our existing queue of mapping projects to get volunteers immediately mapping areas with high proportions of COVID-19 cases, or of greater vulnerability. Creating new mapping projects in highest risk places; which is what this project does. Every feature you map will help in this objective! The goal of this project is to digitize the buildings using MAXAR Premium Imagery.

MISSING MAPS: NIZI REGION, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO
MSF is assisting in an Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) campaign in the Nizi region in Ituri in the Democratic Republic of Congo. During this campaign insecticides will be applied on the inside of dwellings where malaria infected mosquitos rest. As a result the number of mosquitos will go down, which prevents the transition of Malaria.

COVID-19 - KOSÑIPATA, CUSCO, PERU
HOT is mapping Cusco region in Peru at the request of regional government to support their COVID-19 response efforts. The maps will be used to provide cash transfers to families who are prevented from working by the quarantine and State of Emergency in Peru, and to provide nutrition and sanitation assistance.
Additionally, in parts of Cusco, over 75% of children under 3 years old suffer from anaemia. This means that their brains will not develop as quickly as other children, and once they start going to preschool and later school, they will often be tired, unable to concentrate or to learn effectively. The regions which suffer most from anaemia are usually the most remote, hardest to reach areas, where data available to local authorities and NGOs is minimal and access to health services for women and their children are limited. The Regional Government in Cusco wants to combat this by geo-locating where children under 3 live in order to improve the medical attention that they receive.

Help the Philippines map the Mindanao region to support rural farming, gender, healthcare and artisan communities. The Mindanao region grows almost half the country’s food, yet remains the poorest population, with many communities at 30-70% poverty incidence. War and conflict have increased in the region in recent years, with security and safety concerns for girls and women. Our goal is to help map rural agriculture and understand the gender gap to plan improved infrastructure with long term impacts on health, well-being and livelihood for girls, women, Indigenous Peoples and farm families.

TANZANIA MISSING ROADS RAPID
Tanzania has a very high incidence of Female Genital Mutilation, extreme poverty, early marriage and Gender Based Violence. NGOs on the ground need better maps to facilitate their outreach work and protect girls at risk of FGM.
The Missing Maps project aims to map the most vulnerable places in the world (affected by humanitarian crises: disease epidemics, conflict, natural disasters, poverty, environmental crises). Building on HOT’s disaster preparedness projects, the Missing Maps tasks facilitate pre-emptive mapping of priority countries to better facilitate disaster response, medical activities and resource allocation when crises occur.

Mt. Elgon, located in Eastern Uganda, is reported to have the highest rates of landslides and floods in Uganda, often with devastating impacts on local communities. High annual rainfall, steep slopes, increasing population pressure, and cultivation on steep slopes following deforestation are the leading causal factors of landslides.
In October 2018 landslides and debris flows occurred in Bududa District , causing 60 fatalities and displacing thousand of families. GFDRR is supporting the Government of Uganda in assessing landslide and other hydrophysical risks in the wider Mt Elgon area. Detailed location of buildings and roads are needed to study the potential impact on population and infrastructure.

8055 - Allahabad Buildings, Kaushambi - Uttar Pradesh
For every year that a girl is enrolled in school, she is more likely to avoid early marriage and to survive childbirth. She will be less likely to suffer domestic violence, or be trafficked, and will have a higher future income. She will have a smaller, healthier family and will be 50% more likely to immunize her kids. She’ll leave her mark on future generations, as climate scientists rank girls’ education as number six out of 80 actions that can reverse global warming. And she’ll be twice as likely to educate her own girls — keeping the cycle going. Yet despite all these proven economic and societal benefits, across the globe, millions of girls are still excluded from school because of their gender. India is home to one of the largest such populations, with more than 4.1 million girls outside the classroom. Educate Girls are supporting 1.6 million girls in rural India to gain access to education, and you can help them by mapping and validating villages in rural India.

Aiming to reduce vulnerability, making its structures visible and ensuring that the map is accurate; and to help better understand their degree of exposure and the determinants of vulnerability to environmental hazards.

Since July 2019, Jongole State of Upper Nile region in South Sudan has experienced devastating flooding, which has led to millions of people displaced from their residential areas and moving to refugee camps in the neighbouring countries and within the country in search for safety and clean environment for human life.

In and around Bossangoa in the Central African Republic, MSF teams provide consultations in hospitals and health centres, and support a network of community health workers. A better map of the region will help the teams to understand the exact situation in the area and will allow them to make rough population estimations.
