23338 trackpoints was the sum this weekend.

I've mapped quite a few of the L-roads around Mountbellew, Moylough, Menlough, Augrim, Craughwell, Peterswell, Kilchreest etc.

Also, wherever I find signage for the L-road numbers, I'm writing them down now and update the roads later.

Mom unfortunatly hangs once in a while, with the dodgy cellphone coverage in rural Ireland and when it can't retrieve the maps. I guess I have to send the developer a mail about that and make a few improvement suggestions. Beyond that it's the best tool I've seen for symbian cellphones so far, to see, what is mapped and what not.

Heute zum erstenmal OSM gefunden und mit dem Nokia Communicator die Nebenstrasse in der ich wohne (Meersburg am schönen Bodensee) getrackt und hochgeladen - dann mit Potlatch mir einen abgebrochen aber ... hat geklappt.

Tolles Projekt - ärgere mich schon fast, dass ich nicht meinen mehrwöchigen Trip in Peru getrackt habe, dort hat mir eine digitale Karte echt gefehlt ...

ich habe eine Reihe von ideen wie man dieses Projekt weiter entwickeln kann und würde gerne daran mitarbeiten. An wen mus ich mich wenden?

Ich hatte bis heute immer Motivationsprobleme warum ich mich bei Sauwetter auf mein Bike zum Trainieren schwingen sollte. Jetzt habe ich eine Aufgabe. Ich digitalisiere Ortschaften mit meinem Bike und dem Garmin Colorado 300. Ich fahr so lange bis ich eine Ortschaft komplett digitalisiert habe. Für eine Ortschaft wie mein Heimatdorf brauche ich 2-3 Stunden. Jeden Tag kommt eine andere Ortschaft dran. Seit ich das mache ist Bike auch im Dunklen und bei Regen interessant.

Nachdem ich dann irgendwann auch die Funktion "Linie in Teilstücke auftrennen" von JOSM kapiert habe, ging es nochmal deutlich einfacher.
Damit dann erstmal die Klinikstraße korrigiert, die sich ja in drei Teile aufteilt: Vom Röntgenring aus erst frei befahrbar, dann Nachtfahrverbot und dann Fußgängerzone.

Dann auch wieder einen ganzen Schwung POIs in der Innenstadt aus dem Kopf eingetragen. Es bleibt immer noch die Unsicherheit, wie vieles zu taggen ist: Was macht man mit Versicherungen (AOK usw.), ADFC- und ADAC-Geschäftsstellen, Zeitungsverlagen usw.?

Heute mal mit etwas leichtem angefangen: Die Äußere Pleich besteht nur aus einigen wenigen Straßen, die auch schon alle aufgezeichnet sind. Der zentrale Teil ist ein Wohnviertel, den man vom Durchgangsverkehr freihalten will. Deshalb sind die meisten Straßen Anliegerstraßen; alles ist 30er Zone. Es gibt auch viele Einbahnstraßen; sie sind teilweise in Gegenrichtung für Radfahrer freigegeben; außerdem sind manche Straßen nicht auf der ganzen Länge Einbahnstraße.

Während die Straßen schon alle eingezeichnet waren, haben viele der Zusatzinformationen gefehlt oder waren nicht mehr aktuell. Also gut, um auch ohne GPS-Tracker an der Karte zu arbeiten.
Jetzt sollte das komplett sein. Der Anschluß der Rotkreuzstraße an die Nordtangente fehlt allerdings noch, das war mir noch zu kompliziert.

Außerdem waren einige wichtige POIs in dem Bereich noch nicht eingetragen. Allerdings fehlt mir hier doch ein Tracker - gerade bei den größeren Gebäuden (z. B. den beiden Veranstaltungshallen) wäre es schon schön, auch die Umrisse mit auf der Karte zu haben.

Over the past couple of weekends I have filled in more of the street names near where I live. Often I find mistakes in the mapping, usually small cul-de-sac roads which are missing. There are also many footpaths cutting between residential streets and round the back of houses which aren't in the map. I try to add them but it becomes easy to get lost. In general these missing features aren't easy to discern from the aerial photographs.

Nach einer Wanderung vom Hebelhof über Herzogenhorg und Gisiboden sind wir mit der längsten Rodelbahn Deutschlands nach Todtnau gefahren. Habe mein Legend HCx auf 1s-Tracking eingestellt, trotzdem kann ich nicht alle drei Loopings erkennen. Der Osmarender hat alpine_coaster auch ziemlich komisch gerendet. Mal sehen, was der Mapnik macht...

Hat irgend jemand schon mal versucht OSM für historische Karten zu benutzen? Technisch müsste das sehr einfach sein, indem man einem Objekt einfach ein Start- und ein Enddatum zufügt, also etwa ein Gebiet mit dem Namen "Siedlungsgebiet der Teutonen", Startdatum "200 bc", Enddatum "50 bc" (Daten frei erfunden). Dann könnte man mit einer Software z.B. eine Karte Mitteleuropas im Jahre 100 vor Christus erstenn, indem alle Objekte eingefügt werden, die sich in diesem Zeitraum befinden. Ich finde, dies wäre eine interessante Anwendung für alle Historiker und interessierte Laien und würde das Erstellen von Bildungsmaterial für Schulen und so weiter stark vereinfachen.

I've just finished a converter so now all those megabytes of traces in a custom format can be shared. I don't mind about the Public Domain license.

The receiver is a Haicom HI-204S, my first one. It was purchased in 2005 mainly for a few hobby electronics projects, one of them (and eventually the only one) being a logger. That one is rather of old-school fashion: 8051-based, 256KB of EEPROM for the track, 6 V 4 Ah SLA battery for both receiver and logger. Heck, the whole bunch weighs almost 1.5 kg. A packed binary format holds about 15K records. Being a purist, I keep the receiver on the car roof -- or on a PVC frame protruding from the backpack (cheers, Trimble!).

On the PC those tracks are archived in CSV format. A converter to PLT format exists long ago because OziExplorer is my workhorse. For OpenStreetMap I needed another one. Of course PLT->GPX using GPSBabel was not worth it as important bits like HDOP are already lost.

A bit earlier I coded a diff utility that updates my CSVs given differences between an original .plt and a censored .plt. So now I'm additionally able to weed out data that is obviously wrong, outdated, misleading, needlessly static, or considered too private -- and present it as GPX, even with support for separate track segments.

Hopefully there won't be any nasty errors in the resulting format. SAXCount.exe from xerces-3.0.0 doesn't complain but who knows...

Mir ist da so ein Gedanke gekommen, wie man schnell viele gute Daten sammeln kann.

Ich habe speziell in und um Eisenach gesehen, dass viele Dörfer nur als Punkt existieren.

Was hält die Comunity davon, wenn man mal Entsorgungsunternehmen anspricht, die wirklich in jeden Winkel kommen, wenn sie die Mülltonnen auslehren bzw. direkt Bekannte anspricht, die bei Entsorgern arbeiten. Sie fahren meistens nach einem optimierten Tourenplan, der kaum eine Straße zweimal berührt. Vielleicht ist unter den Mappern sogar ein "Müllkutscher", der was dazu sagen kann.

Yesterday i took my bike mapped nearly the complete south of Heimbach Weis, There are only Vierzigmorgen, Reylsweg, a little part of Lindenstraße and Unterbüngstraße missing, because the accu of my GPS device was empty.
In the upper part the Planetenviertel, Oberer Markenweg, the upper part of Weis and the east part of the industriepark is missing.
Also the speedlimits, and most of POI's are missing.
But i will map this soon.

I went back to do surveying in and around Somersham again today. My visits to this village / town have been a recurring theme where every time I go there I find the place is bigger than I expected and I can't quite finish. Well, today I think I finally conquered the place. I've done basically all the streets in the town, except for a couple of private roads that I wasn't sure whether I should go down.

I've also surveyed all (I think) of the post boxes in the village, many of the bus stops, a number of drove roads to the north, some shops, the pubs, the church (including the churchyard paths), noted down some nearby farms and businesses, etc... Before returning home to Cambridge I also made a start on the footpaths through fields around the settlement.

I think it's fair to call the place basically complete, although there are still some rural and residential footways linking up various roads to do, plus the couple of private roads to find a solution to and one or two other data quality considerations. Still, I'm pretty pleased with the data now and it feels good to have done an entire town!

I'd also like to give thanks to my friend Chris for keeping me company on one of my expeditions here, providing moral support whilst putting up with my incessant camera snapping and GPS poking.

It's only got three lines, but I've successfully completed digitizing the light rail system in Santa Clara County (San Jose, CA), marking all stations and digitizing the rail line. The main extensions that had to be added were lines down to Alum Rock, Campbell, Santa Teresa, and Almaden.

Walked -- and mapped -- a large part of the tracks in Tivoli, Copenhagen.
