I just returned from a trip to D'Alsace/Vosges and upload some footpath, camping sites and some roads. It's a very beautiful area and deserves a much better coverage...

For some days I can't use the Cycle Map any more.
The tiles don't get loaded.
Do only I have that problem?
Also when I try to load one tile directly e.g.
http://a.andy.sandbox.cloudmade.com/tiles/cycle/15/17174/11114.png
I get a network timeout.
If someone can confirm, that this site is running fine (not using a proxy with cache), I will contact my ISP.

Hi,
I got the good news that Wikiloc.com is now available as a folder layer on Google Earth. .. On the outset it might not sound like good news.
.. however, what that means is that it's 1 more step closer to having google maps and Google earth show OpenStreetMap.org as a layer.

Here's what we know so far:
Google Maps, has publically announced that they use Wikipedia as a layer option so then all the mapped wikipedia entries will show. (it shows up 1st on searches)
Wikipedia is part of Creative Commons. ... and follows the CC-SA values :)

It looks like Google is trying to become more open source, with the launch of Google chrome, and the sucess of igoogle.com making the home page, EXACTLY what people want to see, and freedom of developers to configure code for it.

Perhaps its a stretch? I dont know.

Well, back to the news. WikiLoc.com is a cool site that you can post your route GPS tracks on the site, and will show the verticle profile, as well as show all the photos of the trip. Whats even more wild about it is that on the slippy map that is shown, it gives you all an option to recommend that OpenStreetMap be used as the base slippy map ... instead of Google Maps. ... Perhaps once wikiloc makes the change, and shows OpenStreetMap as an option or the defult option, when it becomes popular. .. this in inturn will help the Opentreetmap community, as more eyes will see the map, and will learn that they too can contribute.

Once WikiLOC gets even bigger, and takes over the lead to become the main source of adventure trails track collecting, Google will then see the merrit in using OpenStreetMap on google earth. ..
So cool.

Anyway, please comment if you will.
(this isn't an add) (comments??)

If google can also learn to play by the rules... we all win :) ... would be wild when google can search out and sort all the Tags, that are in the database. .. not modifying it.. just showing the results on the map when the user types in key words.

As part of this years project week at the Freie Waldorfschule Ravensburg
(www.waldorfschule-ravensburg.de) a group of 6 boys from year 10 and 11 mapped the in 7 two-hour sessions the Weststadt of the City of Ravensburg. The result can be inspected at: osm.org/?lat=47.7827&lon=9.58066&zoom=15&layers=0B00FTF

We worked on UBUNTU systems using gpsbabel to preprocess the GPS data. digikam was used to adjust the time of the pictures and to geocode them. JOSM was used to edit the map. Only open software was used to build the open map.

All of them have been OSM starters and in the end they all became experienced map makers. Ok at some stage a main road disappeared and 25Km of another main road was moved 1Km to the south. It was a pleasure to work with these young and enthusiastic boys.

I think this combination of physical exercise and reasonable work with the computer was an interesting experience for them as well.

My article about mapping Stratford has finally been published on page 9 of issue 2 of the Stratford Grapevine (PDF 2.5 MB) Hmmm something tells me this won't attract hordes of new contributors. Still it was an interesting exercise in trying to explain OpenStreetMap to a non-technical audience.

Dealing with the TFL publishers was also a challenge. They wanted me to get everyone in this photo to sign a release form. Bit too difficult to organise in a few days before the deadline (and way too much hassle). And when they said they'd like me to send them the map image in vector format, I somehow knew that they wouldn't manage to get it printing correctly. Sure enough it's missing all the street names. Ah well.

Apparently they are giving out copies for free at Stratford station.

Hi All,

I just updated a few roads in a business park and put in two circular roads. I can't seem to reverse the direction of the roads. Potlatch bug?

Can someone have a look? We drive on the left of the road in South Africa.
