Hi all, were getting some great discussions going on on the talk-ca discussion list. :) With many questions being asked.

For those of you out there thinking about Importing government data, (Linz people?) and others, and for those familiar with the back-end OSM database programming, your input is greatly appreciated.

We have people with varing levels of OSM knowledge, and varing levels of the whole GIS concept and work with it in their field. A lot of it is based here in Canada, but since this is a global project, and the announcement has been translated into other languages. We do want to make sure that we 'build on the shoulders of giants' so we don't repeat mistakes and lessons of the past.

Cheers,

Spent the whole evening correcting streets in Cupertino and Saratoga. Sometime the TIGER data is 100% accurate and then suddenly the streets right next to it are seriously off...

I just correct points based on the Yahoo photos and don't touch any of the TIGER tags. I hope it's not necessary to touch the 'reviewed' flag to avoid changes to be undone with a later import? There's an edit history after all, right?

I finished the Ankeveense Plassen top multipolygon for the fourth time and now it looks like it's going to stick in both render engines. In osmarender the whole thing is complete and in mapnik I'm waiting on the last few islands to show up next wednesday.

I now also moved some of my attention to the Naardermeer, a lake NNE of the Ankeveense Plassen. A lot of the lake's shores are in dire need of correcting and islands have to be created. You'll see now a nice difference between osmarender and mapnik which showes exactly what I've done so far.

Using Yahoo imagery and Potlatch to map some motorsports racetracks that I frequent. The first is Thunderhill Raceway Park:

The other for today is Reno Fernley Raceway:

(These links will show little or nothing until the renderers catch up.)

Hi,

Bushaltestellen & Radwegen).

I noticed that the names of the primary cities on the ABC islands seemed a little out of proportion, so I updated their place designations to be more in line with their actual sizes. Kralendijk is not a 100,000 person city! :)

I also tagged Sorobon Beach and the Sorobon Beach Resort. The latter I added with tourism=resort. I'd be happy to change it if there is a more appropriate tag or value. This is a small, clothing optional resort, which rents cabins for extended stays, has day visitors, and has a bar, restaurant, beach, and a few other amenties.

Went for a trip out to Teversham Fen today.

On the way out there I found some interesting looking paths in Fen Ditton which led along the course of an old railway line. This was a bit of a mixed bag - it looked like some care had gone into putting the paths in and making the area nice. It also looked like it's gone downhill since then - various bits of abandoned junk, beer cans, etc which seemed a shame in such a nice setting. The path ended (as far as I was concerned) at an old humpback road bridge, crossing the path of the old railway line. The bridge was covered in graffiti and there were a couple of burnt / dismantled motorbikes underneath it. I was not eager to hang around in the area and found a path leading back to the road. Seemed like a sad waste of a nice area, really. At least I was able to map (some of) the paths there.

My real destination was a pair of footpaths near Teversham Fen. I've recently put some work into extending waterways down into this area using Yahoo coverage and NPE. I knew there were paths down here and the area looked quite sparse on the map, so I wanted to fill it in. I set off down one of the paths, got some advice from a dog walker, traipsed through muddy fields for ages. Myself and my bike got very gummed up with mud - the bike picked up a vast amount even though I wasn't sitting on it. Very sticky mud, it reminded me of chocolate icing, although I didn't eat it.

Once in Teversham, I cycled down through the village, looking for the Southern end of the other path which I knew to exist - the dog walker had told me it came out somewhere down there. Finally found it and looped back up to the A1303, although along the way I discovered some more paths still to map - this always happens when I go exploring!

I've now uploaded the footpaths and done some enhancements to the detail in the area, drainage ditches, streams, woodland, etc. Hopefully in due course this area of the map will look rather less bare!

Hallo Leute,
