I got the virtual machine "Tiles @ home in a box" installed from
osm.wiki/index.php/Talk:Virtual_Tiles%40Home

It seems to be showing "Error uploading tile_xx_yyyy_zzzz_abcdef.zip" (xx, yyyy etc are the tile numbers):
500 Internal Server Error
Failed to retrieve server queue load. Assuming full queue.

Otherwise it's chugging away downloading tile areas and processing them into tiles. I did have to make sure to use my email address for the OSM login rather than the username.

In the Tiles@Home user page
http://server.tah.openstreetmap.org/User/show/
it says I've processed 36696 tiles, and uploaded 4102Kb, so obviously something is working...

What is this about?

And how can I view my latest edits directly using this nice virtual box, as well as processing the tiles that need to be done?

http://sites.google.com/site/canadawikimap/Home/WikiMapC.zip
I posted the link on my site (i'll add it to the Wiki project page, but wanted you guys to see it 1st.
It's a full install file for MapSource to see all of Canada... all the OSM Data of course.
For some reason, the Victoria, Vancouver area and southern BC didn't show up, but next update it should.
cloudmade.com has the full IMG file for Canada, so you can download that.

So what's cool about this one, is that i made a program that will grab the latest and greatest OSM, and also the Unofficial Trans Canada Trail. .. (that part is an interm think until the whole trail gets mapped. .. hopefully within the next year it will happen.

Feel free to comment if you have any ideas.. all are welcome :)

'cause of the Copyright thing, when i make the Across Canada Trails coil bound map book, i cant have the TCT file listed as it is.. it ALL needs to be manually put up there on OSM. ... the book will be free and thats the best part :).

Cheers,
Sam

I've got a nice puzzler for you: How do you do water works like wading pools (there's one in a park near my home) and splash/bathing fountains? I know swimming pools are theoretically covered separately (with the sports tag), but I'm thinking they should be split back to include such things and cordoned swimming areas in lake/beaches etc.

Any thoughts?

I started mapping Dalyan (Muğla province of Turkey), near Dalaman. There appear to be _no_ maps of this at all online, including on Yahoo, Google Maps, or even just hand-drawn maps - which is kinda exciting!

The area is absolutely beautiful, right next to a river, with cute little streets and provincial looking houses, vegetables patches and restaurants with views over the tombs of Caunos (etched into the hillside).

Anyway - if anyone has any tips for a relative newbie (my main frustration is wanting to see the results rendered!) please message me...

Also dann cya on the Road

So, I started by mapping a few features around my home. Immediately ran into a few problems (I've read on the Wiki you should attach areas to surrounding ways, but I can,t see how to actually do it, and am unsure how best to join road without causing alignment problems), but am hoping to learn to deal with them.

(Edit: I think I've figured out how to get these to work right in Potlatch.)

Last Sunday,

we had the first meeting of the local mappers. It was very nice to meet some of the people behind the names I only read before on mailing lists.
And we in fact did some constructive discussion and planning there... I am optimistic that we can coordinate things a little more in the future, so the Dortmund map will get even better (well, to be honest, it is far from perfect in its current state).
I'm looking forward to the next meet and perhaps to mapping parties and so on...

A little pre-travel mapping.

Before heading to the Tri-Cities (Richland, Kennewick, Pasco) Washington are, I spent some time comparing OSM data to Yahoo images. Most of my effort was spent aligning ways to the images, tagging bridges, adding ref= tags, and adding the "opposite" way for some motorways. I also spent time drawing parts of the PSC airport.

I don't really trust the "Richland Y" area. I'm not sure how far along the construction had progressed when the Yahoo images were taken.

In a week, GIS lovers can now play with :

MapGuide Open Source LiveCD

Autodesk and Camptocamp have created this LiveCD to ease your first steps with MapGuide Open Source. When you boot your computer with this CD you get a working MapGuide Open Source server, complete with the MapGuide Maestro authoring tool, code samples, and demo datasets.

based on Ubuntu 8.04.1 ;)

and also with

Ominiverdi for ESGEO Educational live DVD based on Xubuntu

* GRASS 6.3.0
* QGIS 0.11.0
* PostgreSQL 8.3.1
* PostGIS 1.3.1
* GDAL 1.5.0
