Hi list,

today I visited the Hockenberger Mühle near Wiesbaden for the second time with GPS and tracked a lot of ways. Already uploaded.

At home I probably finished my program to check cycleways for connections. If you are interested in the results, look here: osm.wiki/index.php/UnverbundeneRadwege

The new list contains a lot more information than the first one. And I intend to publish a new list frequently.

Right now I am developping a program that will be able to check all kinds of ways for no connections and for crossings with no node/no connection.

Cheers

I believe I've fixed the thames in london. The riverbank tag doesn't render in mapnik, so the riverbank needs the addition of a natural=water to get it to show. I believe next wednesday, we should see it render correctly all the way from eton to the end of the estuary.

There's an interesting article in the German magazine Spiegel about the length of road networks in the world:
http://www.spiegel.de/auto/aktuell/0,1518,573827,00.html
(I don't think it's available in English (although they have English pages) but you can probably figure most out even if you don't understand German.)

Seems the biggest chunk of OSM road data is already there thanks to the TIGER import.
And we're not too bad off in Germany, only a meagre 231500 km of roads to map and quite a few active people.
Once we're done and don't even have any farm and forest tracks or hiking paths left, we can all move to India or China and have work there for the rest of our lives. ;-) But I think I'll rather go to Brazil and map the Copacabana really well. ;-)
(Actually I'm astonished there is data of China at all. Last I heard was that the regime there didn't want geo data to leave the country.)

P.S.: There's another article of the "10 most..." series about cost of parking space. Also very interesting. I thought Manhattan would be more to the top of the list... http://www.spiegel.de/auto/aktuell/0,1518,566264,00.html

So long,
Markus

Well, that's this years trip abroad done. Back home, I find that Wat Tyler Country park will bear some trips out with the dogs - we split the party last week & I left the GPS with the girls, to get the miniature railway mapped.
Of course, the dogs & I proceeded to get thoroughly lost on the footpaths...
We'll be back! Probably this weekend. Anyone mapping in Basildon?

I have been spending some time validating coverage around Luxembourg City with the Josm validator plugin. Neat tool, and I am starting to "get" Josm as well (mostly a Potlatch user so far). Reminds me in some ways of Autocad. Altough, I am frustrated that the Yahoo Imagery only works when you have Firefox 2 installed. I am not going to downgrade my everyday browser just to get that working :-(
