The Sentinel-2 satellite finally captured a cloud free coverage of the 2018 Laos Dam Collapse site. Over a distance of more than 50km, everything near the river has been washed away, trees being stripped bare from the river banks.

Road data are essential for most maps, whether they’re used for tourism, navigation, or business - but especially critical in emergency response. Our project goal is to validate and map the road network that connect settlements and residential areas for the country, and make this open data available to all through OpenStreetMap.
Together with contributors from the local community, including the enthusiastic volunteers of the PUPSJ CWTS++ program, we’ve completed or made head-way in some regions in the recent past.
Utilzing the ImproveOSM tools, contributors were able to validate, identify, and map, the potential missing roads in the countyr some months back, with technical and logistical support from Kaart.

I just received a request to add a preset for amenity=language_school to my fork of the JOSM presets (that you should be using instead of the original :-)) Nothing to said against that, it is a reasonably popular feature with nearly a 1’000 uses.
Naturally a preset that is essentially just a stub isn’t really helpful, so as always I checked what additional properties should be added, and tagging the taught languages is an obvious attribute that is interesting.
Much to my dismay it seems as if in early 2016 it was infected with the “move values to key” plague. Instead of having two keys, lets say
language
and
language:main
containing a list of the languages, we now have more than two hundred potential keys for an in principle, simple attribute, making both data consumption, editing and creating a preset more than just difficult (as the keys can have at least three values plus unset, they can’t even be modelled with a checkbox in a preset).
At the time somebody further thought it was a good idea to retag existing language tags to the broken schema:

Insomnia hit last night for the first time in years. With nothing better to do I cleaned up gas stations in Turkmenistan, identified stations without numbers and placed FIXME tags on them, added data where I had collected it but not got around to updating the map. Is there some way of getting overpass turbo to count stations for me? When Ann and I started this project in 2015 there were very few gas stations mapped. There seem to be a lot more now, between our work and the work of other mappers here.
Hope to get back on the road next week to do some more exploring.
On my last diary post I talked that we have a new features endpoint on our OSMCha API that makes it easy to the communities to add flagged features to OSMCha. Let’s check how you can use this new endpoint.
1. Get authorization
The first step is to open an issue on our GitHub repository and tell us what kind of feature modifications you want to flag.
You’ll need to deploy some software to monitor the features or you can just write an osm-compare function.
We will review your application and, if you prefer to run a monitoring software by yourself, we will update your user to allow it to post features to OSMCha.
2. Post features
The new endpoint is https://osmcha.mapbox.com/api/v1/changesets/add-feature/. You must do a POST request with the following content:

Only the first four fields are mandatory. The other are optional. Any other field you add to the request content will not be saved on the database. Check the list of existing suspicion reasons, if you want to flag features with another reason, just add the name of the new reason inside the reasons field and it will be created when the request is received by the server.

Here in Lima, from osmpe.org are orginizing a course about osm and social and it humanitarian uses in prevention and gestion of emergencies. This course will be held in Social Sciences Faculty, at San Marcos National University, and will be focused in participation, community and geographical opendata and will be as introduction to osm world.
The course is programed from nov 19th to dic 17th, and have 60 academics hours in that we’ll develop 13 issues related with openstreetmap’s tools and community. As part of this activity we go out in a journy of two days of field work to put in action in the ground the kwonledges builded and learned in the first half of the program.
We would like to share this kind of experience with others osm communities. In a next edition, soon, we want incorporate teachers from others experiences by videoconferences. If you are interested in participate, please, don’t dubte and take contact with us.

It is the youngest capital in Europe, a city where years of peace have brought constant street name changes and endless new streets being built. Locals often use landmarks – sometimes long gone – or old or colloquial names when giving directions, which I had to ask for repeatedly on my first trip to Kosovo in May to visit Anne. It’s a cliché to talk of Kosovo’s potential, but it felt especially true when I looked at the map of Pristina, trying to find my way from Bill Klinton Boulevard, which has a huge statue of him, to Rruga B, which has changed to a name no one remembers or uses.
Big proprietary map makers can’t and don’t care to keep up. Even more than elsewhere, the best map of Kosovo can only come from local mappers.
On my next visit, together with the wonderful OpenStreetMap community, I organised a meetup. This led to very productive meetings with Kosovo’s national cadastre agency. I’ll hopefully have more to write about open geographical data in Kosovo soon.
Continued from the previous post, I decided to improve and merge the parts of the Citarum river that were added as a part of a HOT (Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team) project. Some river paths are smoothed to look great in large zooms.
Before
1000 issues were already created. The issue #1 ((ID=1) was created on 2018-06-16. The issue #1000 (ID=1064) was created on 2018-09-19. So an average speed is 1000/96 = 10.4 (issues/day). An information about these created issues is shown here.

Days after my attempts in extending the Citarum River, Indonesia (see this post), a HOT (Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team) project added an unconnected part of the same river (highlighted in above image in dark blue color). Today, I have mapped the gap between both rivers to be joined into one in Changeset #64012348.
One thing that surprises me in the HOT changeset is that the river that flows in an opposite direction with my drawn rivers. I am confident enough to change the direction of the river to follow the direction of the dam in (-6.69206,107.41797) as well as the tributaries found at the unmapped part of the river (after the HOT changeset).
I am planning to do some QA on the HOT-added river before merging with the main river line.
The beta should be available on googles playstore and from out github repo in a couple of days. No fancy pictures of new features as there are none.
As announced previously this version no longer supports Android versions prior to 4.0 on googles playstore due to restrictions that google is now imposing. It is however possible to either build your own APK with support for earlier Android versions and likely we will be distributing such a version via F-Droid and our github repository.
Do be able to do this we now have two build flavors:
Right now the current build mainly profits from bug fixes to the support libraries, for example the issue with sub-menus on tablets is resolved in the version we build the current flavor against.
This is not a commitment to supporting 2.3 indefinitely, but as we suspect that google will be increasing the minimum Android that practically can be supported in the future we expect that the legacy build will continue as a vehicle to support older versions.
On devices that only supply 32MB or less of heap to apps, memory usage of Vespucci had gotten to the point at which the app could potentially completely run out of available memory. To work around this a bit we’ve stopped loading the simplified country boundaries which saves roughly 4MB, this implies that any country specific features will not work. Further we recommend to, instead of the standard bundled preset, to load the untranslated one (see the on device Preset help page) which will save roughly another 3MB (mainly because we don’t build a translated search index then).
Last March, DSWD-ICTMS conducted a mapping workshop called MAPAbabae, a fusion of mapa (map) and babae (woman), to celebrate the Women’s Month.
Starting October 2018, we are having a series of mapathons entitled: MAPAbabae II: Mapping Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) Desks and Centers. It aims to create a VAWC Desks and Centers Information Map which will be made accessible and available to everyone, to be launched during the 2018 18-Day Campaign to End VAW on November 25 to December 12, 2018. Through the Map, we want to raise public awareness that these facilities exist and they can always call for help.
VAW-free community starts with me! is the official theme for the 2016-2021 Campaign to End VAW. We encourage everyone’s participation in this mapping activity.
The first mapathon for MAPAbabae II was done on October 25, 2018 at the DSWD Central Office Boardroom, and attended by DSWD employees and IACVAWC representatives. We have mapped 74/82 Department of Health-Women and Children Protection Units (DOH-WCPU).
After I’ve gathered information, I started to update my neighborhood. For me, it was such an honor to give contribution to my neighborhood. I used Mapillary in capturing images and JOSM application in editing. Those applications help me a lot in doing my task. In editing, I encountered some problems like how to put a right tags, but then, I overcome it, my instructor guided me in editing. Also, I noticed that their new establishments in our neighborhood.
This program gives me additional skills and knowledge. I’ve learned so much in this because it teaches you about humanitarian and helps you to enhance your socializing skills. Also, it gives you the value of helping others. It made me realized that helping others is not always shown physically nor nonphysical like online humanitarian volunteers such as OSM editors.
Continuing from my previous post, I have submitted 8 new changesets (#63876977 #63877356 #63885737 #63885836 #63947501 #63947694 #63965928 #63976086) to add the aircraft parking lanes in klia2 (Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Terminal 2).
So as i was mapping i figured out that some places have changes on the ground but the satellite imagery has not been updated and hence is not accurate to 100% Behind the Department of Geography and Environmental Science , there is now a building Called Diamond lecture theater which is directly opposite Geology dept .
