This is the fifth and the final session of the program and I can pretty much say that the time and effort that i exerted is definitely worth it. I am very happy to be part of this program knowing the significance of mapping, how it helps other people and at the same time I had a lot of fun doing it. Knowing how to map is also an achievement and it is an additional knowledge that may help me in the future.Being a part of this program gave me an opportunity to help and give or share the information that i learned. This may or may not be the last but It helped me and also knowing that I helped others through this simple act made me feel like I was a better person.

HI! I’m a freshman education student from PUP San Juan and i’d like to share my experience from my CWTS #MapaTime sessions. I’m honestly not the ‘techy’ type of person so i struggled keeping up with the pace at first, but when i got used to the mapping process i actually started to enjoy doing it. My favorite part in the mapping process is the part where we look for schools around the map, because it kinda felt like treasure hunting of some sort. After 5 sessions of #MapaTime, i realized that i could help communities through mapping in their locations as accurately as possible. Through my experience, i think more people should try mapping and help communities in this kind of simple activities. Lastly, i’d like to thank the instructor and the volunteer senior students for their time and effort in teaching us how to map. :)

Hi! I am a student from Polytechnic University of the Philippines, San Juan Campus under the course of Bachelor in Science in Secondary Education Major in English. As part of our CWTS subject, our professor taught us how to help to those who are in need which are far from us without our existence on that particular area, through #MapaTime. Among those five sessions that we’ve attended, it was indeed worth the effort and time we allotted. I enjoyed every session using Open Street Map with our Prof and his student assistants who are very approachable. I thank them for making us experience this activity that we will not just enjoy, but also let us help for those who are in needs.

I am a student of PUP San Juan Campus taking up a Bachelor of Secondary Education majoring in English.Having a mapping sessions is a good experience and a worth of time because I’m able to learn something new.I am thankful to my instructor for teaching us, especially to the teaching assistant because if without them I won’t be able to finish every task that have been given.I am not sure if I’m able to volunteer in the future because I am really not good at it.Thank you so much for the time and effort!

I am a student of PUP San Juan, taking a course of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. Knowing that we will be doing mapping, I honestly don’t know what we will do in particular. Our instructor have done a good job on explaining its process and its benefits to the community/society that we belong with. At first, I am very much nervous for this is the first time that I will be encountering or doing this kind of community service but, thankfully, we have such a good instructor and students assisting us. I can say that this activity doesn’t waste my time as I learned a lot and one of the learning I’ve got is mapping the schools I am/ am not familiar with. Through that, I have been able to help people on recognising accurate locations of some schools. I want to thank my professor for this experience, that’s all.

At first, I thought this sessions it can be hard for me but it gives me a lot of knowledge on how to make a detailed map. This activity is very helpful to all of us to not get lost in the road especially if you go to the place that your not familiar. I am very thankful to my CWTS Prof. Ms. Joan Villanueva for giving this opportunity and also to our instructor and assistant for the very comfortable and wonderful experience.

HI ! I’m a Bachelor of Science In Accountancy student here in PUP San Juan branch, actually I like knowing and finding out new stuffs that is usually helpful for me and also for the others. Im riding my motorcycle everytime I go to the univesity, and it’ll be very helpful for me to know and understand some routes for me to make my way in the university much smoother. im very glad that I experienced this wonderful activity that is very useful for everyone, Im likely to join and participate other activities that will truly help everyone and also enhance some of my skills. I like to thank the university for offering this kind of activity that will help to improve the data of the DEPED on the number of schools that can be find and locate in the Philippines, also to improve the skills of their students to improve their technological skills. and also I would like to give thanks to our mentors because it will not be possible if we dont supervise and handle by them that is willing to give their help everytime.

Ako ay isang estudyante ng Politeknikong Unibersidad ng Pilipinas (San Juan Campus). Kasalukuyang kinukuha ko ang kursong Batsilyer ng Sekondarya sa Edukasyon (Major in English). Ang aking karanasan sa #MapaTime ay masasabi kong nakakalugod sapagkat marami akong natutunan lalo na sa paggamit ng mga bagong kaghamitan tulad ng kompyuter. Nagkaroon din ako ng kaalaman sa pagmamapping. Natutunan ko maghanap at magmapa ng ibat ibang paaralan sa Pilipinas. Natutunan ko din kung paano i-classify ang ibat ibang gusali,kalye/daan, at mga bahay sa isang lugar. Nais ko pang mag-volunteer sa susunod pang mga araw upang mas makatulong ako sa ibang tao at mapabuti ang kalagayan ng bansa. Sa mga susunod na magmamapa, dapat alamin ninyo ang mga tamang klasipikasyon ng bawat gusali at mga daan. At syempre dapat may alam kayo sa paggamit ng makabagong teknolohiya tulad ng kompyuter upang masc mapadali ang inyong pagmamapa. GOOD LUCK!

Isang magandang araw!!!, Sa loob ng ilang linggo na pagkakaroon ng sesyon marami akong nalaman ukol sa mapping sesyon.Sa kung paanu ito ginagawa at masusing inaayus ang bawat detalye na nakalaan sa bawat hakbang na nakapaloob sa nasabing teksto.Sa unang araw naganap ang pagpapakilala ng bawat isa at kung anu ang naging kanilang ganap ukol sa CWTS o civil welfare training service.At sa buong linggo nato natutunan ko ang iabat ibang paraan ng paggamit ng ibat ibang tools na nakapaloob sa mga ginagawa.

Mabuhay! Isang karangalan sa akin ang magkaroon ng isang kurso na may kinalaman sa Teknolohiya. Lalo pa’t ito’y makakatulong hindi lamang sa aming sintang paaralan, ngunit pati na rin sa buong bansa! Magkahalong lungkot at saya ang aking nadarama ngayong araw. Malungkot dahil ito na ang pagtatapos ng aming session. Hahanap-hanapin ko ang pagtuturo ni Sir gamit ang wikang ingles na kung saan kami’y aliw na aliw at nakikinig ng husto. Napakahusay! At sa pag gabay, siya’y palaging nariyan; itaas lamang ang kamay. Salamat po, Sir. Olario. At syempre, ang mga poging anak ni Sir, hahaha.. Sobra po akong nag papasalamat sa mga kuya kung tumulong upang marating ang top 2. Kayo po ang nagsilbing hagdanan upang makamit ko ang tala ng sintang paaralan. Salamat po sa inyo! Tatanawin ko po itong utang na loob :) ^_^ Sobra po akong nagpapasalamat sa inyo! Alam ng Diyos kung anong saya at galak ang aking nadarama!

Sa pagtatapos, napakaraming bagay ang aking natutunan; 1.Matutong mag tiwala sa Diyos dahil siya ang nagbibigay ng lakas, talino at karunungan upang matapos ang gawain 2.Huwag maging makasarili at matutong tumulong sa iba. Tumulong ng walang nakakakita 3. Maging masaya sa lahat ng ginagawa. Ituring na isang prebilihiyo ang pagmamapa 4. Maging responsable sa mga sinasabi ng Guro at makikinig ng mabuti 5. At ang huli, Pumasok ng maaga para hindi mahuli sa klase!

Hi I’m a student taking up Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English here in PUP San Juan Campus. My experience during my #MapaTime was wonderful, I learn a new way using my leisure time usefully. During the 5 days meeting I was able to enjoy all the activities that we have. The Prof and the teaching assistance are all friendly and approachable and I want to thank them for teaching us patiently. I wish to volunteer in the future since aside from it is fun to do it is also useful for the community.

good day!!..I am a student of PUP SJ taking up secondary education major in English,but I’m not good in English hahaha :)..It was a good experience for us to have the knowledge on how to do the mapping especially to those who teach/help us every time we don’t know what we’re going to do..My favorite part here is when we’re doing the mapping,searching for the schools that have not been fixed,and of course chatting with the seatmates.Maybe on the future ,I can be a volunteer for this kind of activity that will help my community .

Hello! I am from the Polythenic University of the Philippines, San Juan City. I would like to share my experience from our Mapatime subject. We had 5 sessions and as far as I could say, it is quite enjoyable and I really learned a lot. The sessions are very useful because it serves as a new experience for me because I haven’t tried mapping my whole life until now. During our mapping sessions, at first it was hard for me but then as time goes by and with the help of our professor it became less difficult. I learned that mapping is helpful in our society especially when there is calamities or disasters. My favorite activity is during our last day because we already know what we are doing so it was enjoyable. Since Mapatime is about volunteering, I guess I would volunteer but I am no professional. Well, to improve the sessions in our Mapatime, I think there should be more assistants to cater everyone but I would like to give thanks to the 3 “kuyas” who helped us. I would like to thank our professor, Sir Erwin and thank you for the wonderful experience.

It’s so enjoyable because I saw different places and schools here in the Philippines. And I’m able to finish all the task and it’s worth it. In mapatime session they gave us a chance to voluntarily to do a mapping. Tingin ko naman worth it sya kase alam kong makakatulong ito para sa mga taong naghahanap ng lugar na kanilang pupuntahan. Hindi rin sya aksayado sa oras dahil maraming natututunan dito na kung saa n ay tinuturuan kami ng aming instructor pati na rin ng mga estudyanteng mas may alam dito. Ang masasabe ko lang sa aking natutunan ehhh dapat na maging tama ang bawat na school na yung gagawin. Gamit ang itinuro sa amin hindi jko man masasabeng lahat ng ginawa ko ay tama. Sana lang makatulong ito sa ibang tao. Sa tingin ko ay ang pagmamap ang naging favorite activities ko HAHAHAH charr !!! kahit na hindi ako nakakuha ng mataas na iskor dito. Volunteer in the future ahhhm tingin ko gusto ko din magvolunteer sa dadating pang panahon para mas makatulong sa ibang tao. Mas maganda ang pagmamapping kase gaya nga ang sinabe ko ehhh nakakatulong ito sa ibang tao at maganda din itong maging hobby hindi puro cp lang tapos mag facebook lang HAHAHA. I’m a student of Education major in English in PUPSJ. This is my first time doing mapping, and my experience with MapaTime is exciting and makes you addicted doing it. Doing MapaTime is actually worth my time. Whenever I don’t have anything to do, I do this instead because I know I can help with collecting data. I learned that doing this mapping will help find schools for emergency purposes. Unlisted schools will be found with the help of this mapping. I think this is my favourite activity in CWTS, and I guess I will miss doing this. If I keep to do this in the future, I guess I’d do volunteering. My professor said that mapping is also part of volunteering, let’s just say it’s an indoor volunteering. I guess if the data in Open Street Map will be updated, there’ll be more schools to be found and collected, since some of them are covered with clouds or unverifiable because of the location.

Hi! I’m one of the students from PUP San Juan, studying Bachelor of Science in Accountancy to be part of this Mapping Project on our CWTS Subject. Being born in this advent technology, this type of activity is a big thumbs up for me. At first, I was kind of nervous of what we will be doing for this project, but as days go by, I am continually learning how to get things done. With the OpenStreetMap site and with the Instructors and our guides (thank you guys, we owe you a lot!), we easily learned ever part. We started to learn how to put the right areas, lines, and points to accurate places on the map and also doing the authentic and quality work for the map.

My favorite part in doing the project is when we find schools in the Philippines and map the right areas of it because it’s the time we explore different places in our country, as well as contributing to the places to find and add where the schools at. It is nice to be a volunteer in this project.

The 10 hour CWTS #MapaTime session gave me enough reason to do digital volunteering in the means of locating schools in the Philippines. It’s been fulfilling because instead of wasting two hours in the classroom waiting for the next subject, we also help other digital volunteers on locating schools in the country. I’ve learned that there are still a lot of unlocated schools in the country, and on documentaries I’ve watched (mostly Kara David’s) they’re having a hard time to find these schools and luckily this osm helps people and the Department of Education to locate the address of the schools across the country. One of my favorite activities in this session was the time everyone has already located a school meanwhile I can’t locate one, they have 30+ points and I only got 14, it became my strength to do well on searching areas (I’ve plotted in Mindanao area, specifically in Davao region) that needs to be added in the system. My aim on this activity is to locate schools in Mindanao area especially in rural areas and contribute quality data. Overall, it has been a fun experience! If ever I’m bored during the 4 months summer break, I would probably do this again.
