Hello again RR80,
You have been asked on numerous changesets (for example osm.org/changeset/181470807 , osm.org/changeset/181534983 , osm.org/changeset/181519071 et al) to explain why you have changed the
placetag on some things, mostly fromvillagetotown. You have replied (among other things) “How is that not obvious?”, which is at best unhelpful. I suggested on osm.org/changeset/181466664 that it’s worth discussing your changes in the forum. I actually suspect that you’d get some support from people in the UK for your view that theplacetag in OSM should match the legal status, especially for things like cities; but it’s less common elsewhere in OSM, and you’d definitely need to explain what you mean by “town status”. Taking the example of Melbourne, that is legally a civil parish and the council describes itself as “Melbourne Parish Council”. Conversely, it has entered itself for “UK Town of Culture 2028”.People have also tried to ask you about your changes to populations (a local says on osm.org/changeset/181473553 that “If 1000 people had left Burry Port, surely I would’ve heard about it!”). I don’t see any attempt by you to back up the numbers that you are using.
Finally, the source of the population data (see osm.org/changeset/181469502 ) is a problem. The website that you quote as a source just says “© Thomas Brinkhoff”; I don’t see any indication of an OSM-compatible licence to go along with your source for that data. Your reply (“Jesus effing christ”) suggests that you aren’t going to seek a waiver and for that reason if for no other we’ll have to remove these changes from OSM.
When this block expires please do discuss any changes that you wish to make in the forum before making them. While this may seem like an unusual request, most mappers don’t get quite so much pushback to changes as is currently visible at https://resultmaps.neis-one.org/osm-discussion-comments?uid=2261940 .
Best Regards,
Andy Townsend, on behalf of OSM’s Data Working Group.
