For those who are reading this in the future. It appears that the Comaps editor inherited an upstream issue from Organic Maps where ghost edits are made unexpectedly that create numerous poi versions.

Like for example a mapper opens the mobile app and adds details to a coffee shop where there's a small chance that their client becomes self-possessed and creates 15 pointless alternative versions on its own. If this happens to you the best thing to do is to revoke access to Comaps to contain the issue from adding unnecessary clutter to the openstreetmap db and report the behavior to the issues below.
