Am I Addicted to OpenStreetMap?

I view the osm envinronment more as entertainment than an actual task, it’s like playing solitaire or any other videogame except I am actually contributing to a greater project which is a plus. I could pass an entire day mapping in osm but lately I dislike spending too much time looking at a screen, so what I end up doing is recording gpx tracks which ultimately ends up in the same osm envinronment so it is a win eitherway, or go walk to an interesting place I saw trough satellite imagery using CoMaps so I end up using the same map I contributed editing

digital tourism and mapping remote places

Pretty much, the fun of mapping in OSM is also the fun of exploring the world, the city, sighting places you otherwise would have never known or heard off, etc. Part of the reason why I love hiking, and also urban walking, you always see a new spot or street you were never before, but at least for me I have visited most of my local city and it has helped me in memorizing the name of sectors and the streets, things I would struggle with before

Also, if you use JOSM, there is a way to insert wayback imagery from Esri into it so you can map with them. I think you can do that with other editors but I am not sure since I haven’t used any other editors that aren’t josm (Not even iD).

Right now if you look at my latest edits I have been mapping roads in a remote area of my country that’s comprised of just flatlands, and you can see how remote it is since there are long stretches of distance between each farm and ranch, to the degree that some of them are probably hours away from the nearest town, and since the roads are unpaved you could only get there with a truck, or trough horse riding/mule riding

Anyways, good write up, looking to see more of them if you redact them in the future

Mapping Happy Valley Goose Bay Another day, another street

Have you tried looking at historic Esri imagery trough the use of TMS layer from the Esri Wayback Imagery archive?

Never mapping walking dunes

How were you able to make such a timeline? It looks so cool I would want to do one myself too

3D Mapping Showcase

This is some insane stuff honestly congrats

I managed to recycle the detailed lettering geometry from a changeset that was originally reverted as mapping for the renderer.

What did you map that had to be deleted due to mapping for the renderer if you want to disclose it?

Help

Have you check the inbox of the email you signed the account with and verifying by accessing the link the osm wiki should send you?

What do you do in the case where something you want to point out in the map can’t be fully explained in english? There are many concepts which either don’t have an accurate alternative in english or the way the message is transmitted can not be fully conveyed in english
