Changeset When Comment
71362387

Thanks yaswap. Consider in the future using a more descriptive changeset comment so we know what the intent is. In this case, something like "Add turn restrictions at intersections of Utica Ave with Eastern Parkway and Eastern Parkway service roads."

Also please add a "source" field for your changesets, so we know where you're getting your information. In this case at least one of your turn restrictions was incorrect and has already been deleted (see changeset/71391444 ). If you're taking information from a source that's out of date, better to find that out sooner rather than later.

Thanks, J

Sorry to say that it's not permitted to take info from Google Maps and add it to OSM -- Google's license does not allow this.

See osm.wiki/Legal_FAQ#2a._Can_I_trace_data_from_Google_Maps.2FNokia_Maps.2F....3F

Are any of your other changes based on Google data?

Hi Jamie -- what's the source for these Gowanus boundaries?

71362387

Hi payelgh -- any particular reason for adding this node and bending Eastern Parkway? Is there a new road geometry that's not indicated by aerial imagery?

Hi Lucila -- could you describe the source you're using for the names and boundaries of these landuses?

Thanks, jmapb

HI Dariaa_P -- you've been creating a lot of named landuses in NYC. Just wondering what the source for these names and boundaries is?

Thanks, jmapb

Hi Elizabeth Zimina -- I've mentioned this before but please, please stop adding these spammy tags.

The "description" tag is for a short description of the item in question. In this case, a good description would be "manufacturer of windows, doors, and gates" - not a long-winded spiel that sounds like an ad. And it should *not* include the phone number -- there's a separate tag for that.

The "note" tag is for adding information relevant to other mappers. It's not supposed to be a jumble of keywords. A good use would be "I'm adding this company but have not surveyed in person, please confirm location."

It's great to add new companies to the map, but you're not doing these businesses any favors when you abuse the tagging system. Personally I'm happy to continue patiently eradicating your spam, but others are not so patient and will simply delete anything you add.

Thanks, jmapb

Hi Cadrion, thanks for your contributions. I've reverted these particular changes though (with changeset/70928485) because this isn't the correct use of "name" for a building.

The name field is not for the address -- these buildings are already tagged with addresses, but if you want to add or fix an address, use the address fields, not the name field.

The name field is also not for adding notes about who lives at a particular house. This is considered private information and not suitable for this map, which is published worldwide.

Let me know if you have any questions, I'm happy to help.

Thanks, jmapb

I've removed this node. If this is a real office and really located near here, please re-add it in the correct location.

Hi AnnaTai.... please, please stop adding these landuses for individual stores. That's not what they're for.

Also, please don't ignore these changeset comments. OpenStreetMap is a community project and communication with your fellow mappers is key to producing an excellent map.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Hi AnnaTai, welcome to OpenStreetMap! Thanks for your contributions.

I'm a mapper active in NYC and noticed this changeset. You've drawn a building:
way/691617652
overtop of an existing building:
way/280081405

Best I can tell, it's the same building and the one you were trying to add was already on the map.

It would be best if you could remove this duplicate building -- or if you prefer, I can do it for you. I'm also happy to help with any question you have about the map, in NYC or otherwise.

Thanks, jmapb

Hi AnnaTai, welcome to OpenStreetMap! Thanks for your contributions.

I'm a mapper active in NYC and noticed this changeset. You've added a landuse=industrial area called "DUMBO area." This isn't quite correct, since this area is not really industrial anymore. Many years ago it was, but now it's quite mixed with a lot of residential units, restaurants, retail, parks, theaters, etc.

In general in NYC we avoid using landuse for mixed areas. DUMBO is considered a neighborhood rather than a landuse, and in fact is already marked as a neighborhood:
node/2019020144

It would be best if you could remove this incorrect landuse -- or if you prefer, I can do it for you. I'm also happy to help with any question you have about the map, in NYC or otherwise.

Hi lizy_busy -- again, as in the previous changeset I commented on ( changeset/69764247 ) you've added a building that's already exists on the map as two separate buildings.

As I requested last time, it would be great if you could delete the new outline you drew ( way/689649248 ) as well as the previous one I mentioned ( way/687051286 ).

If you need help with this please let me know. Please don't simply ignore these messages -- OpenStreetMap is a community project and communication with your fellow mappers is key to creating and maintaining an excellent map.

Thanks, jmapb

Partially reverted in 70149319, fixing accidentally dragged bus depot and distorted building footprints

Seriously? Why do I bother adding a fixme if you're just going to ignore it and delete it? Please communicate with local mappers, don't just override them blindly. Thanks, jmapb

Hi brandonbds, welcome to Openstreetmap!

I'm a mapper active in the NYC area and noticed this changeset. I saw that you added the tag "bicycle:oneway=yes" to Reade Street. Just wanted wanted to let you know that this is not necessary to add for a street that's already tagged oneway=yes. The presumption is that bicycles follow the general rule, unless there are signs or road markings to the contrary. (Ie, if a oneway street allows bikes in both directions, or a twoway street allows bike only one way.)

The tag you added is not incorrect, but it's not necessary. Just an FYI to save you time in the future.

Let me know if you have any problems or questions -- I'm happy to advise or assist.

Hi joshuamorgan123, welcome to Open Street Map!

What's the nature of this item? Is there an office here that clients can visit?

Also, what's the correct address? Your website says 71 Brooklyn Ave but the node you added is across the street from that address.

Thanks, jmapb

Thanks northtron! I try not to click on Google links but I'll trust you. I was just wondering 1) is it really there? [as mapman44 says that depends on the imagery dates] 2) is it underground? [presumably not] and 2) should it be squared? ['cause it's a little off square]. But I'll leave this alone for now. Happy mapping!
