Changeset When Comment

Hi Alon_Av, please take a look at these items. If I don't hear back from you, I'll be inclined to revert this changeset which appears to be erroneous. Thanks, jmb

Hi hshore29, thanks for your updates in Clinton Hill.

Regarding this closed restaurant: In cases like this it's preferable not to delete the node, but rather just to change or remove the tags that no longer apply. The node still represents the premises in question and can be re-tagged with new information when a new tenant moves in, allowing us to preserve a richer history of the location.

This is especially important in a building like this one that has multiple addresses -- this node was the only place in the database that held the address 980 Fulton Street, so when it was deleted, we lost the fact that this address exists at this building.

I've already reverted this changeset and restored this node to the database with changeset/66144616. I surveyed and found that it's now a hairdresser, so I've tagged it accordingly.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this or anything else with the map -- I'll try to help best I can.

Thanks, jmapb

Hi Brett, thanks for keeping the map up to date.

Nb, when a restaurant (etc) closes it's better to add the "disused:" prefix to the amenity key, instead of deleting the node altogether. This indicates that the premises in question is still there, with the same address, and can be reused for future tenants, giving us a richer history. It's especially important in buildings with multiple addresses (like this one) to make sure we don't lose the node in that location with the correct address tags.

(I already undeleted the node and set the "disused:" prefix in changeset/66109774.)

Thanks, jmb

Reverted in changeset/66107808. Elinorzag, please feel free to comment or message me to discuss what you're trying to do here. Offhand I don't think a multipolygon is needed here; in fact I'm not sure it's even appropriate to tag either of these buildings with name=Google's NYC HQ as these are buildings with many diverse tenants.

Partially reverted in changeset/66107197. Things I could not fix or confirm, I removed/reverted due to the high number of placement and tagging errors, and lack of communication from the mapper.

Hi Elinorzag -- please take a look at this problem. Otherwise I'll be inclined to revert this changeset before it gets overtaken by other changes and difficult to revert. Thanks, jmb

Hi Elinorzag -- this changeset seems to have removed all tagging from these two buildings. Can you check? Thanks, jmapb

Hi again AJB1998 -- I ran into one of the imported nodes from this changeset and, checking in, see that you've made no reply to my comments and no improvements to the data. These additions are quite sloppy, some in the wrong locations and some duplicates. I'm inclined to revert the whole changset unless I hear back from you. Jmapb.

Hi Alon_Av,

Thanks for your contributions to the map. A couple of the changes in this changeset seem a little odd and I was hoping you could explain them, or possibly undo them if they are mistakes.
1) node/2565054465, an address on Kosciuszko Street, has been moved from Kosciuszko Street to DeKalb Avenue. See node/2565054465
2) node/5365041389, which was the restaurant Houdini Kitchen Laboratory, was deleted -- but all of its tags were added onto another restaurant node, 5476739551. See node/5365041389/history and node/5476739551

Please take another look at these and comment. If these are mistakes (as they seem to be) and you'd like help reverting them, I'm happy to assist.

Thanks and Happy New Year, Jmapb

Hi Cam Sou -- I'm deleting this because this cafe is already on the map. I added it about a month ago. MAPS.ME takes a while to show these new updates sometimes. J

Hi Chistouf, thanks for your contributions. Just wanted to mention that we normally do NOT add AirBnbs to the map unless they are physically signed as businesses from the outside. If it looks like a regular house not a guest house, it should be mapped as a regular house. See https://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/59979/should-we-tag-unlicensed-tourist-accommodation-wo-signage-if-so-how

Well, this looks good now except that you've deleted the `highway=traffic_signals` tag from this intersection node. Don't worry I've put it back.

65629450

Hi datbrahm -- To encode an exception to a turn restriction, add the except=* tag to the turn restriction relation (relation/9130540) not the intersection node (node/42466290).

Also, there's no need to use the `conditional` syntax unless there are other restrictions such as time of day or weather. If the rule is simply "no left turn except busses", then except=bus on the relation is sufficient.

See:
osm.wiki/Relation:restriction

No answer... well, I surveyed the Brooklyn location today and found a residential brownstone with no trace of any such shop. Not wanting to waste a perfectly good node, I transformed it into a plastic surgeon. The one in Manhattan I moved to the actual store location at 438 West Broadway, confirmed by Bing's street imagery.

Hi Lara, the general practice is to avoid mapping temporary features, see:
osm.wiki/Good_practice#Don.27t_map_temporary_events_and_temporary_features

Do you know the date range when these stores will be open?

65500440

Hi Lara, welcome to OSM.

I'm wondering about these French Connection stores. I'm pretty sure that there's no such shop here: node/6138997588
Just residential brownstones and medical offices on that block.

I don't know about the other one you added at 7th Ave & West 38th in Manhattan, but according to the French Connection website the only store in NYC is at 438 West Broadway in Soho. (See https://usa.frenchconnection.com/content/stores/united-states.htm )
