There are a few issues here. One is that (as has already been mentioned) the source isn't licence-compatible with OSM, so it has to go for that reason. Another is that OSM is a map of real things in the real world, as osm.wiki/Verifiability makes clear. While it's possible that I might be able to go to the Pitcairn Islands and find a couple of people (among the 50 there) fluent in this language, I somehow doubt it.
Before importing data such as this into OSM it's important that you follow the guidelines set out at osm.wiki/Import/Guidelines , in particular osm.wiki/Import/Guidelines#Step_2_-_Community_Buy-in . Once you've done that, and the community is broadly supporting of your import, you're welcome to re-attempt it.

No idea what the "man_made=standing_stone" such as node/9356645968/history are like here - are they like any of the first four stones at https://map.atownsend.org.uk/maps/map/map.html#18/-25.00734/135.17517 ? If so, I can detect them as one category or another.

Thanks - I've moved the tags over (and removed the building tag) and removed the old site relation. As you say, nothing really understood it.

As osm.wiki/Proposal_process makes clear, "a vote result is never permission for large-scale re-tagging of existing objects". The use of maproulette in this way is essentially an automated edit by other means. However, as I said in the list post above, it doesn't make sense to revert back to where we were many months ago.
In future, edits such as this should be discussed, and had this one been discussed as an automated edit I'm sure that it would have been approved.

The only two things that didn't revert cleanly were way/363539869/history which has been subsequently edits and since deleted, and the Luas Red Line relation relation/3616737 , also since edited.

The immediate one I spotted was way/312307713 . Previously it was "leisure=pitch; sport=rugby_union". The extent of the rugby pitch was mapped by me from the Bing imagery the day before your changeset here, based on a survey earlier in the month. Even if you thought the imagery was unclear it's pretty obviously a rugby pitch - it's named after Laurence Dallaglio who's a famous alumnus and went on to much success with in English rugby (even if he allegedly, as the pub story goes, struggled to get in the first team at Ampleforth!)

Can you explain what you actually did?

What logic did you use to "Convert large pitches into recreation grounds"? It sounds very much like a mechanical edit that should be reverted, unless you checked each feature and made sure that it really wasn't a pitch, but was something else.

The problem is that people don't know that that is what the changeset does until they have looked at it.

That is what changeset comments are for - to help people see what a changeset does without looking in detail.
