If you want to "just create a one-off map" then something like https://umap.openstreetmap.fr/en/ is probably your best option.
I'll have a go at tidying the test data here, by the way.

Hello - way/548338260 seems to be a square area of water in the middle of the Atlantic. Is it in the wrong place, or did something else go wrong?

Andy

Hello GeoBeau,
Please don't add imaginary data to OpenStreetMap. Can you please explain what you're trying to do - then people might be able to help.
Best Regards,
Andy

"Hello,
Please don't add test data to the live OpenStreetMap Server. If you want a test server, perhaps http://api06.dev.openstreetmap.org/ would work for you?

Thanks - I'll have a look when I get a chance (probably later on today).

Actually, one more thing - if you spot any more of these please drop a mail to data@osmfoundation.org (even if you've already deleted them).

Thanks. I've deleted the rest of the recent doodles.

Hello and welcome to OSM!
I'm afraid something looks to have gone very wrong with way/288800325 etc. - it's merged all of the tags from the individual sections of former railway together, and most of them don't apply to any one individual segment. Compare for example the tags that were on way/529081871/history to those now on way/214694756 - it's currently tagged as all bridge, wheras in reality it isn't.
Would you like me to try and undo it so that the individual sections are restored again?
Best Regards,
Andy

That approach is certainly used in some places in OSM when there isn't an obvious "most popular" value for that name. Given the "to and fro" edits that the name has seen "هەولێر / أربيل" is probably better than most of the orther alternatives.

Hello ألبرشت شونكا,

Please use meaningful changeset comments for your changes - it helps everyone else understand the reasoning behind and the source for the changes.

In this case I'd agree that an English language name doesn't make sense for the "name" tag here, but can you give your reasoning behind choosing the name:ar one over the name:ku or name:ckb here? You can see how the name has changed over time at http://osm.mapki.com/history/node.php?id=599019138

(for info for anyone looking at this changeset)

It's currently being discussed - see osm.org/user_blocks/1792 and https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?pid=686927#p686927 . If there's no clear answer there about why the previous status quo was wrong it'll get reverted.

Hello,
I think that something's gone a bit wrong with node/4417115790/history here. Your change changed the name to "virus" rather than "Song Tan" or some variation. What I suspect happened was that MAPS.ME submitted a change based on out-of-date data. I'm just checking here to make sure that "Virus" isn't in any sense a valid name for the restaurant :)

Andy

Juste pour être clair, vous avez ajouté des bâtiments à Denver (aux États-Unis) pour https://tasks.hotosm.org/project/1318.

Wikipedia just says "Today, Erbil is both multi-ethnic and multi-religious" which isn't tremendously helpful :)

> I do not read Arabic or Kurdish, so I cannot comment on those.
Never mind - worth a try!

@Tedros That's the changeset comment of the reverting changeset. Among the things that you deleted was the disputed area of Somaliland: http://osm.mapki.com/history/relation.php?id=3586169 . The change to http://osm.mapki.com/history/node.php?id=424317039 was odder - you removed the name tag altogether but didn't replace it with anything. I'd expect the node name to match the relation name http://osm.mapki.com/history/relation.php?id=192799 (either in Somali or a Somali / Arabic hybrid as now).
I'm not familiar with the area, but https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somalia#Languages suggests that Somali is the main language, both Somali and Arabic are official languages, and both are widely used.

Erbil's the English name, but what is the most commonly used on-the-ground name? Is it "هەولێر" (central Kurdish), "أربيل" (Arabic) or something else?

If you were there last month I suspect that you have more up to date knowledge about what's actually called what than almost any of the editors at http://osm.mapki.com/history/node.php?id=599019138 !
