Changeset When Comment
50170769

Hello - can you explain why you have deleted so many things in this and previous changesets?

50009835

way/230598545/history overlaps with the building to the east - can you please check which is correct?

50130355

OK, all now finally complete. There were a significant number of problems here.
Firstly, before doing any sort of import you'll need to read osm.wiki/Import , osm.wiki/Import/Guidelines and osm.wiki/Automated_Edits_code_of_conduct . In particular, the steps in osm.wiki/Import/Guidelines must be followed. Your imported data in these changesets failed on almost all of the "key considerations" there.
Secondly, before deleting data that you don't understand such as way/185326535/history please ask the OSM community what it's for - you can comment on the changeset of the person who added it, or ask the community more generally, using osm.wiki/Contact_channels or perhaps https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?id=56862 .
Thirdly, "mapping roads as areas" is problematic. The way that way/506041187/history was mapped just suggested a small secondary road that goes round in a circle, which it clearly is not. Probably the least worst way of doing this is via osm.wiki/Proposed_features/area:highway , but there are some things that you'll need to check first. Firstly, any import is subject to the caveats above. Secondly, you'll need to get community buy-in (perhaps ask at https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-in/ and https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewforum.php?id=65 ), as area:highway polygons make the map considerably harder to edit fr all other users, especially in cities.
Finally please do reply to the questions that people have left at http://resultmaps.neis-one.org/osm-discussion-comments?uid=3644628 - things like "are there really 90 hotels with the same name in this city?". Try and explain what you were trying to do, and people will be able to help.
Best Regards,
Andy

Following discussion on changeset/50130355 , reverting some problematic imports in India. This changesets deletes objects that had been "tidied" by mapping-for-the-QA-tool and could not be deleted in changeset/50188052 .

Hello,
According to http://osmhv.openstreetmap.de/changeset.jsp?id=50163638 5 relations had their tags changed by this changeset. Can you explain why those tag values were changed and that the tags mean?

Andy

Since there are a few problems, and there are also "fixup" edits by other mappers since, it might be easier if I did it. I'll be in a position to do it in a couple of hours.

@didier2020 See osm.org/user_blocks/1400 (which has now been read).

Hi ninjamask,
Throwing such a large area at JOSM validator does not achieve anything useful - in fact in some cases it actually makes things worse because it obscures the remaining problems caused by e.g. a bad import.
For example, way/506046148/history was deleted here, but the root cause of the problem wasn't "overlapping nodes" but a failed import, some parts of which (e.g. way/506039728 ) still remain.
OSM QA tools are vital in spotting problems such as this - changesets such as this (especially on this scale) hide underlying problems from QA tools and make the job of people who really want to fix the data much harder.

Andy

Hello,
Can you explain what you've trying to do here? This looks like an import of data from an external source - what was that source ("source=knowledge" on the changeset gives us no clue).

Andy

I think the bridge at way/505901990 has got a bit carried away too :)

Hello,
Just wondering the reasoning behind "castle_type=defensive" on Bolsover Castle? Whilst it's true that the original castle here was defensive, what's here now is essentially just a country house. As your source wikipedia says, "the castle was designed for elegant living rather than defence". The Little Castle does look a _bit_ like a castle, as was the fashion of the time, but wasn't in any way defensive.
Incidentally, strictly speaking Wikipedia isn't a suitable source for OSM - it's CC-by-SA licensed, and in theory demands attribution from data consumers that OSM can't guarantee.

Andy

Thanks for adding these. Just for info, the latest OS Locator data does include a couple of the new roads:

http://ris.dev.openstreetmap.org/oslmusicalchairs/map?zoom=18&lat=53.11182&lon=-1.26038

Thanks for filling in the details here!

Actually - looking at the data I can see what it is, it's the learnosm test data that got uploaded by mistake.

Hello and welcome to OpenStreetMap!
As you can see from the orange line around this change on the map at the right when you view the changeset on the OpenStreetMap website, it overlaps with the Atlantic because some data was accidentally added there.
It's been deleted now, but have you any idea how incorrect latitude and longitude values could have got into the data that you added?

Hello,
Please don't add test data to the live OpenStreetMap Server. If you want a test server, perhaps https://master.apis.dev.openstreetmap.org/ would work for you?

I'm no expert on the situation here, but assuming you're talking about the area around relation/2597146 then on my reading of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artsvashen that would make some sort of sense. The relation has 4 names in the "name" field, the node node/2032851608/history you've just changed, and there's also a named village area way/360002840 .
Please do add back name:hy to node/2032851608/history though.

I refer you again to http://wiki.osmfoundation.org/w/images/d/d8/DisputedTerritoriesInformation.pdf - speficially "The existence of a name, boundary location or description in the OpenStreetMap
database does NOT imply that that it is legally correct in any jurisdiction." and "The OpenStreetMap community operates under the 'on the ground' principle, recording what is actually currently used in a particular area".
It doesn't matter what the "official" name of a town was or is in any jurisdiction, and we don't aim to support any one side in any dispute; merely reflect what name the people currently there use.
Note that there is not just one OSM map and you are free to create maps in whatever language you like. If you look back at the history you'll notice that I added Laçin as a name:az in changeset/46057996 as someone had previously removed it, precisely so that maps in all relevant languages can be created.

Andy
