When "crossing:markings=*" and "crossing:signals=*" are present, there is no usefulness to the old "crossing=*" tag, as its value is entirely derivative of the improved tagging schema. Perpetuating the "crossing=*" tag (except maybe not including "crossing=no") just introduces unnecessary maintenance debt. "crossing_ref=*" is the tag that can be used to refer to crossings by named locally designated category (like "crossing_ref=hawk" or "crossing_ref=rrfb").

Hi! Yes, those WA public transport pages were, as pwbriggs said, a project started by me and never finished.

We discussed the "gtfs:*=*" switch in a different changeset of Itserpol's, and I agree that it's the best way forward. Feel free to edit the Wiki accordingly, or I will get around to it at some point.

I find PTNA (https://ptna.openstreetmap.de/results/US/WA/US-WA-KCM-Analysis.html) to be the best QA queue to work from!

Hi Lauren - no problem :) It's a pretty easy mistake to make, as when selecting a box in JOSM, the nodes are selected as well. Fortunately, these errors don't have any real impact on routing, so it's not a big deal. Happy mapping!

I broadly agree with your changes - unabbreviating the street names in the `name=*` value is in line with OSM best practices, and I'll continue forward that practice in any of my future edits.

I also agree that we need some GTFS feed namespacing as doing so is the best way to avoid key conflicts.

I'm not sure about the format, though: I see you went with `gtfs:$field:$feed=*`, but namespacing in `ref=*` (for example) generally follows a `ref:$identifier:$field=*`, as in `ref:US-WA:SDOT:UNITID=*`.

What are your thoughts on switching to `gtfs:$identifier:$field=*`, as in `gtfs:stop_id:US-WA-KCM=29640` → `gtfs:US-WA-KCM:stop_id=29640`?

I don't have a very strong opinion one way or the other, but I'm happy to discuss! Thanks again.

A bit of feedback: There's no need to add "*=unknown" tags - the absence of the tag is considered equivalent to "*=unknown".

I don't feel too strongly on it - validator flags are just that, not necessarily to be followed, but unfortunately their existence forms a lot of inertia. 🤷🏼‍♀️
