also: adding construction zone.

Proper description of this changeset:

Specifying count of hoops.

yeah, it doesnt seem like there is a real consensus. Based on my discussions, the US community uses recreation area, but the rest of the world uses sports center and finds the recreational area to be ludicrous. So yeah.

Yeah, I will try to look out for local mapping conventions, or try to stick to the US.

Youre all good, i dont take this as beratement!

Happy mapping!

turns out i was wrong, based on a conversation i had with more experienced mappers. the out of bounds is still part of the pitch, and recreation ground is not correct, sports centre is, which i noticed you had already tagged, so thank you for that!

i went back and fixed what i did, based on the conversation.

hello! thank you for editing openstreetmap!

By the way, when mapping sports pitches, only the area where the sport is actually played (within the marked boundaries) should be tagged as a sports pitch. The area around it can be tagged with landuse=recreation_ground. I did this for these tennis courts, so you can see an example of how to do it :).

happy mapping, Loopslol7

glad that you were trying it out, we always need more people editing, especially out in rural areas like this :D.

Its ok, thank you for understanding! Happy mapping :)

Hello!

Please dont forget to add changeset comments! it helps other mappers to understand what you are doing on the map.

I also use go map, and i understand it can be easy to just submit the edit without the comment, but it is very useful for other mappers.

Thank you for helping with the map!

185390076

yay!

Thank you for editing openstreetmap!

By the way, in this area, there is 2023 othoimagery from the city of Eureka. I think it is a better source than the bing here.

Also, its not wrong not to include it, but if you know the address numbers of these houses that would be fantastic to add :)

Happy mapping!

what is your source for this name being incorrect?

184451688

Yes, those are the most accurate names I have for now!

Ok, ref:PGE:barcode and ref:PGE:joint sound like nice tags :), the reasoning makes sense.

Thanks for the direction, Loopslol7

Hi,

these tags were based on a conversation I had with a utility pole worker, I believe from PG&E. They said they use the barcode number (there is a barcode on the label with the number) as one way of internally identifying the pole, but there are also joint reference numbers, which they use when communicating about the pole with other companies or things that are using the poles. those, albeit unique, tags seemed like the best way to add that data. if there is a more common tag that would fit this use of references, im happy to use it.

it seems locally here there can be many different reference numbers for the exact same pole, just that they are used for different things.

very important edit, thank you

Hi! Just want to say thank you for editing in this area!

184363828

thank you for the quick response :D this helps with understanding access tagging.

Happy mapping!

is public an unfavorable tag?

182356474

Hello!

Thanks for your edit!

I believe that for the northernmost portion of this area near Humboldt hill you could use the Eureka City 2023 orthoimagery rather than the Bing aerial. It is more accurate to the position of things and is more clear.

Thank you for your response!

I will change it back soon. Also, thank you for contributing to this area! More mappers around here would be fantastic.

180932974

hey, I think the tag

'seats:separated' is much more common.

separate_seats is used only 7 times.

whereas the other has almost 10K uses.

They may actually just describe different map features however.

Hello thanks for your response :).

I understand that it looked maybe like weird mapping but those trails do exist there, I understand why you’d remove them tho 😂.

I think I may re add them as informal trails but after talking to other mappers they said they’re almost on a scale that shouldn’t be mapped or isn’t necessary to map those paths. I kind of disagree and want to add at least one of them cuz they are faster paths!!

The gate is actually used as permissive acces even though yes it is private land. But it’s not paid attention to except by the people who live right there, but they’re tenants not the owner of that area so. If you’re chill they’re chill basically.

Thanks for taking the time to try and make this area better though. I also should probably start uploading gpx tracks i have of this area, I’ll get on that eventually.
