With regard to "online references", do you mean updated imagery? Do you know that people can actually contribute their drone imagery for use in OSM? Using taginfo: https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/search?q=building%3Dcar_dealer , you'll see that this is barely used. It's probably better as building=retail, or building=commercial, and the generic building=yes, is probably better than building=car_dealer.
