Thanks for the extra detail. I've done some testing on my end and can't reproduce a routing issue tied to this changeset — the tags changed here don't affect access through the gate.

What I did find is that the node itself was later edited (separately) to remove the gate/barrier tagging entirely and reclassify it as a welcome sign — that's likely the actual source of the routing change you're seeing. I'll be reverting that edit and re-tagging properly: bollards for pedestrian/cyclist access, and the sliding vehicle gate as its own feature with access hours (7am–7pm) applied, based on what Goucher Campus Safety confirmed.

I'll follow up once that's done.

If your application has a problem, interpreting OSM tags I suggest you adjust the parameters so that students with permission are exempted from normal routing restrictions.

Hi there, I saw your edit here which deleted the Genesse Valley camp that I'd mapped. While it may not be a camp per se, updating the tag to summer camp or similar would be the better call, or at least discussing it with the mapper (me). Thanks!

`access=no` is not the appropriate tag for a closed trail. That tag is reserved for paths that are legally prohibited, such as when FPVSP or DNR posts a sign.

If a trail is no longer present, it is better to tag it using the `abandoned:*` lifecycle prefix:
abandoned:=**

Hi, thanks for your contribution. You are correct that “America” is often used to refer to both North America and South America. However, in OpenStreetMap we don’t map continents this way:

* A continent is not a `type=boundary`. Boundaries in OSM are for things like administrative areas or protected regions, and they require polygons, not points.
* Points cannot form a valid boundary relation.
* It is also inappropriate to tag this as `place=continent` that tag is reserved for established continent features already agreed upon in OSM.
* We do not map entire continents as single polygon boundaries. That only adds unneeded complexity to the database.

Because of this, I will revert this changeset.

Hi there, thanks for mapping paths in PA! I noticed that quite a few of the trails here in Strawberry Hill are tagged as footways. I'd advise away from using this tag on trails and converting them to paths as you come across them. Are you familiar with the OSM US Trails Working Group? We have a strong consensus-driven tagging system support by the community and contributed by mass marked apps like AllTrails and Strava. I'm on the committee. osm.wiki/United_States/Trails is the best guide out there. I encourage you to check it out and make some improvements in your mapping travels. We need mappers like you.
