How the name appears on a couple of signs is irrelevant to how it should be stored in OSM's database. With the standard white space it allows each individual renderer to display text to whichever length the choose.

When upgrading platforms to polygons could you add area=yes please. it's required to render railway=platform correctly.

The fact it renders without it in the 'standard' render is a bug in OSM-carto, which will hopefully be fixed.

If the recreation grounds are within the school's grounds the school's boundary should encompass them.

Platforms don't require a 'footway' tag as it raison d'etre is for it to be walked on.
There's no requirement to keep both linear & area platforms.
If amending a platform from a line to closed polygon it's good practice to re-use the line as it retains its history.

but the way is mapped by someone else as a cycleway. Are you able to recall if it had vehicular access?

From aerial imagery it appears to have vehicular access from the South & maybe just a path from the North?
