During Christmas time i have experimented with the Waycheck script
see more at osm.wiki/Waycheck
created by Gary68 see more at osm.wiki/User:Gary68
and have found a lot of unconnected road ends and
roads crossing without bridge or tunnel tag.

Will keep fidling with the script until temperatures in Denmark
again allows mapping on bicycle.

Happy new year to everybody.

- I've corrected several areas around Braunschweig Kanzlerfeld from natural=wood to landuse=forest.
- Additionally I've tested to bring together areas like forests with highways if reasonable. Not to have a highway and next to it with a gap of a few meters a forest for example. I think it looks better if the border of the forest is on the highway. I'll check after the next render if it works out.

Edit on 03.01.2009:
The result of the above mentioned looks good. I think I'll go on like described.

While trying to improve Metro Manila, I saw spots while fixing the Pasig River (somewhere in the Quezon Bridge portion, If I can recall it). Apparently, I clicked on one green node, which was attached to a way. That's where the problem started. After logging out, I saw my edits, and some areas from Makati and Mandaluyong to Quiapo were "underwater".

I logged in again at 8 PM (PHT), and there were ways that were stacked, with the same rendering.

===The Example===
---Layer 1: layer=-1, natural=water, waterway=river/riverbank---
---Layer 2: layer=-1, natural=water, waterway=river/riverbank---
---Layer 3: layer=-1, natural=water, waterway=river/riverbank---
---No more---
===End of Example===

I deleted the 2 layers, but I could delete the entire "river" in the process. In some places, it has four layers. I urgently need help on how to fix it.

Also, I'd like to aplologize to the Pinoy OSM community for screwing up the crucial ways and/nodes that made the Pasig river possible.

Update (Jan 1, 2009): So far, it is/was fixed by user:remzamora many hours ago, but the rendering between the Malacañang Palace and somewhere between the districts of Santa Ana and Pandacan are kinda way off. But that is for another diary entry.

Again, thank you rem for fixing it.

Update (Jan 3, 2009): thanks, rem for correcting me; it was dkt or D Tucny who fixed it. thanks alot.

I added shapes for Lake Nacimiento and San Antonio Reservoir from Yahoo. They are fairly large bodies of water in central california so I can't believe they hadn
t been added before. There was one hamlet which was located under where one of the lakes was. Not sure what it was but left it there in case it a buried gold mine or underwater city of atlantis or something.

Drove around with my GPS-logger (QSTARZ GPS Travel Recorder). Great device and it was set to log a position every 1 second. Several streets/roads in Narvik got a visit.

With a one second resolution on the track-log, every bend and turn was detected. The GPS-error is not much to do about except for putting the device with a clear view to the sky.

Have drawn using JOSM, but didn't put on any names. Concerning the names, some of the inhabitants could do that better than me.

Great day.

Lately I've been working on a few things in the West San Gabriel Valley, just east of downtown Los Angeles in California.

- I've been cleaning up my home town, Temple City, by fixing up street alignments, adding some newly built streets, and adding parks, schools, restaurants, etc. There's more to do, and I plan on building it up continuously.

- I've added a few parks/schools/restaurants to adjacent areas as well.

- I was a little under the weather just after Christmas, so I took the opportunity to start a complete rehabilitation of Interstate 210. There was a lot of junk on this route, especially on its junctions with other routes. My goal is to have the full length of this highway completed by January 4, 2009, before I return to work after my company's end-of-year holiday. This includes: i) every junction properly rendered; ii) maxspeed, oneway, and lanes entries for all sections; iii) alignment with Yahoo satellite imagery; iv) clean-up of adjacent roads that have off-ramps and/or on-ramps with this highway. I started at the northern terminus with I-5, and so far I've gotten to the I-605 junction. There's still lots to do, but I'll get it done.

During last month I prepared crude map of Poznyaky district (near Poznyaky subway station) of Kyiv, Ukraine.
There are several issues, which I gonna solve in January-February 2009:
* add more POIs, despite it is residential district, there are not too much pubs :)
* add schools and kindergartens (with names and numbers)
* add service roads
* check out the number of houses, many of them I just guessed
* ensure all roads have Ukrainian, Russian and English names

However this all is better to do with GPS. Unfortunately I lost my E-Ten X800 this year, so I got to buy some new GPS thing. The easiest way is probably GPS receiver, better with MTK chip.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everybody!

Matching postal codes to delivery boxes has been far easier so far than I had expected (south of Fauna Street, anyway), except that it turns out from this I have utterly messed up when I originally noted the names of Émilois Street (formerly Giroux Street) and Françoise-Giffard Street (Formerly Laurentian Street). I have now fixed that.

My original memory--which puts Giroux (and not Laurentian) intersecting with Lapierre--and not the maps, were accurate, Canada Post's database currently puts these addresses firmly on Émilois Street.

On the way, I noticed no less than three mail boxes I had overlooked: one on Beading Street (amusing fact: despite this, and that there are car entrances on the street, no addresses are actually located on Beading Street!), one on Lafond Street, and a second one on the Fréchette Street frontage of Beauséjour Park (that last one did not exist in my memories!).

I also came across the SAME employee at the Beading street mailbox XD. Only one last anomalous thing is that CP gives a G3E2H4 code for a segment of White Poplars Street, which makes no sense in any case: there is no room for an extra box (I have now walked the whole street! Twice!) and there is NO reason for it to be a G3E 2** postal code there!

Went ahead as I was planning and surveyed the location of all community mailboxes, which simultaneously act as letter- and postboxes. I have the locations for (AFAIK) all of those west of Fréchette Street (north of Fauna Street) and Lapierre Street (south of Fauna Street, but not farther south than the Françoise Giffard Street intersection). I also mapped in a very rough fashion the unmapped street segments located north of the Grey Pines and Alliance Street intersection. Ironically enough, I came across a postal employee busy at this one right as I was finishing my run.

As a side note, it was a nice occasion of surveying some of the nice architecture in the area. Spotted some old houses, but also was dismayed at the overwhelming march of vinyl, which is replacing the older-style wooden sidings and destroying much of the personality of many buildings. I was also suprised to find out the northern segment of Fréchette Street is entirely devoid of boxes, as appears to be Lapierre and Fauna streets. I wonder if they are serviced by the boxes on adjacent streets or at the post office...

I'll also have a try at using the Canada Post address-to-postal code widget to see if I can match the boxes to specific LDUs within the G3E FSA that covers Saint-Émile, though I'm doubtful as to the chances of success...

I didn't think adding to the map was this easy!

Anyway, I think I'll start off mapping some missing roads in St. Annes first (for example, where I live!)(See the note at the end of St Leonard's road east). Then I'm going to be asking relatives (of my mother's side) to help me start mapping Jenbach, in Tirol, Austria.

My first interest in this map started with the use of KDE's Marble plugin. I grew curious - I've never heard of OpenStreetMap, and bits of it seemed missing, so I wandered what I would need to do before I could contribute.
