After a friend of mine pointed out a bicycle trail he had recently mapped in Milpitas, I checked it out, and I noticed a few problems in the area that I decided to clean up:

* Connected up the trail to the adjacent street.
* Moved a few nearby streets with incorrect TIGER data.
* Added a couple of missing streams based on the satellite images
* Marked a few bridges over these streams.

This area doesn't look like its had much detailed attention yet. My cleanups were relatively limited in scope. Someone could probably spend an afternoon or two just finishing up the tasks I started here.

osm.wiki/index.php/User:Computerteddy

http://www.mtb-news.de/forum/archive/index.php/t-326846.html

Today I added all the bus_stops on the X6 route between Huddersfield and Leeds. I planned on doing the same on the return journey too, but the gps signal on the return bus was even worse than the first. I'm contemplating adding in a relation for the X6 route, but since it probably wouldn't be used I'm not sure I can be bothered.

That's probably the last of my mapping in Yorkshire this year, I have a list of Bradford CCTV cameras [1] to add in but that requires visiting them all - a) because I'm unclear as to ownership of the list and b) because the locations aren't exact anyway.

Saturday I head off to Wales, possibly mapping a really annoying missing part of railway line [2] which I think is tunnel / big embankment and therefore no gps signal.

Then I'm in wales for a week, hopefully mapping some of Haverfordwest and then I'm in East Anglia for a few days hopefully completing Walberswick (which would make our version better than Google). But time, weather and family will probably hamper efforts.

Norcross, Georgia, USA — ERDAS announces that OpenStreetMap has been added to ERDAS TITAN 2009 as the default basemap in the TITAN Viewer. OpenStreetMap is a free, editable map of the world.

ERDAS TITAN enables users and organizations to easily make their geospatial data available, while retaining digital ownership rights. Using a 3D virtual globe, users can create data and content mashups that can be quickly published and viewed by others. OpenStreetMap may now be utilized as a basemap for that 3D virtual globe. ERDAS TITAN also translates data on the fly to “view only” formats for consumption into a variety of geospatial applications, including Google Earth, Microsoft Virtual Earth, ERDAS IMAGINE, ArcMap and more.

OpenStreetMap allows you to view, edit and use geographical data in a collaborative way from anywhere on Earth. The maps are created using data from portable GPS devices, aerial photography and other free sources. Registered users can upload GPS track logs and edit the vector data.

“Incorporating OpenStreetMap into ERDAS TITAN strengthens both applications, and highlights two products that encourage users to share their worlds,” said Mladen Stojic, Senior Vice President, Product Management and Marketing, ERDAS. “ERDAS TITAN provides access to unlimited public and private data resources and enables consumption in a variety of desktop, Internet and 3D virtual globe applications.”

ERDAS TITAN has also released a number of other enhancements, including attribute based symbology for point vectors in the TITAN Viewer. With multi-screen support, users can span one TITAN Viewer display across multiple PCs/screens, creating the illusion that the numerous displays are one contiguous display. In addition, users can locally add multiple DEMs as terrain sources in the TITAN Viewer, thereby making adjacent terrains stitch together.

Finally managed to complete the survey of the new M1 J8 (Hemel Hempstead). Also discovered that the A414 is being extended from Hemel towards St. Albans, and as a result the M10 is being downgraded to a trunk route (as it's now possible to drive this route without joining the motorway). I have only removed references to the M10 around the M1 junction as I did not travel to the far end of the M10 to confirm the road signs at that end have been changed to reflect the new road status.

I've removed all construction tags from this junction; although the roadworks continue, the overall road layouts now seem fixed.

I added county and state park shapes in Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and San Mateo counties using map rectifier (labs.metacarta.com/rectifier). It is a great program to use to add landuses that can't be added with GPS. Now the area on the west bay is no longer completely white. It's now got a smathering of green parks throughout. I included the wms rectified image numbers below in case anyone wants to look at them or add extra features, ie trails, restrooms, campsites. Currently I just added the shapes for the parks. I will continue to add additional parks working north toward SF.

Out mapping today: I failed at getting the Christmas shopping done and ended up wandering around St. Ebbes and the Castle complex instead, tidying up shapes and getting more detail and landuse areas in. Osm2Go is wonderful for the data-gathering part of this. I still feel the need to tweak and fiddle afterwards in JOSM so good traces are still necessary for me, but hand-held mapping tools allow lots of good mapping of things you (I) might otherwise miss to be done right there on the ground.

You know you have mapping addiction when …

… you make an appointment, and you're offered the choice between the city office (close by, well-mapped) and Stones Corner (inconvenient, lots of NoNames). You choose the latter.

That said, public transport let me down somewhat (hard to believe, I know), and I only named half a dozen streets or so, plus a few POIs. I'll be back for more inconvenient appointments in the new year if those don't get done.

Best street name award: Zillah Street.
