Update: answers

Are there any other relations except 18560 and 13288 marking the Euro Route R1?
Answer: see Euro_Route_R1#Relations

Why are there two relations of exactly the same thing?
Answer: the more recent relation 18560 had been tagged as EuroVelo2 before being changed to R1. Both are identical in Germany (not in other countries though).
See Euro_Route_R1#R1.2C_D3_and_EV2

Is there any reason why those two stop exactly at the German borders even if the real route covers many other European countries?
D3 (rel 13288) is a German national route. The other one should be merged into 13288 anyway.

Is there any better name than just "R1" or the German names "D3" and "Europaradweg R1"? What makes it even more complicated is that there is another bike route named R1 in Hessen, Germany which does not have anything else in common than the name and the vehicle.
Original name: R1 (regional route 1), later named "Europaradweg R1", translated "Euro Route R1". Short name on signposts: "R1".

highway=residential
cycleway =track
2. Oder muss es
highway=residential
cycleway =lane
beschrieben werden. z.B. way.5:cycleway=track

After a trip to the excellent Carlton Arms pub tonight I did a quick loop up Carlton Way, then Mere way and then down Arbury way. I was able to note down an atm, a shop, a few bus stops, some B&Bs, a garage and a veterinary practice.

I then proceeded up Milton Road (most interesting stuff already mapped here) and ramped up the speed - the GPS said I hit 27.8mph (on a bicycle) and it became basically the first time I'd gone down that road without fast cars zooming past me. The only taxi that caught up with me seemed too impressed by my speed to come past, even when I slowed down and moved over to allow it!

I wonder if it is just me or if other people are affected, too. Since several weeks I get no or only very slow responses when I try to open the Openstreetmap from the website openstreetmap.org or from informationfreeway.org. What is the reason for this failure? I guess it is some kind of too heavy demand or some disk failure. What is more strange is that there is nowhere any notice that these services are currently unavailable, what is being down to restore service or any other useful hint. I find this troubling.

Perhaps it is just me. On the mailing list no one else seems to care, as I did not see any complaints about this problem. Also, if this is only a hardware matter, why is the necessary hardware not just bought? I have heard that the necessary funds are available. If the funds are not available, why is there not some banner or fundraising effort advertised prominently on the main page. What about partnerships? Is there no company or organization or university who would temporarily help out with hosting agreements or servers?

I had an exchange on the mailing list with another prominent community member where I expressed my wish for OSM to become more professional.

Hi all,

i recently started the editing/creation of roads and tracks for the Seychelles. I used the GPS tracks i made there as a base. Mainly Mahe, Praslin and La Digue are covered. It is not tooo much of GPS data, but enough for some practicing without destroying the work of other contributors :-) Because the Seychelles are not yet covered too much by OpenStreetmap.
It's fun too see the map growing...

Completed Huntingdon on Tuesday, surveying the central area. Lots of little alleyways with limited signal, but by putting it in promptly I could make sense of the detail from memory as well as the traces. I'm not completely sure about the naming of some of the segments of inner ring road, and there's a suspiciously large hole in the north east corner where I'd better check I didn't miss something when I go back.

As that only took me up to a late lunch, I then made a start on the large village of Godmanchester, the settlement on the other side of the River Ouse from Huntingdon. At about 5,000 people, it'll take another trip, but I got about 30% done when my battery running out prompted me to stop for the day, none too soon.

Huntingdon wasn't at all what I had expected. It's got one of the largest Tory majorities in the country so I was envisaging smartly-presented well-to-do houses with several new cars in every driveway. Yet from appearances it's a poor, working-class town with rather dismal, though not run-down, housing and a lot of heavy industry. The centre has the usual shops, but also an appalling windswept run down pedestrian square with discount shops and eggs-and-chips type cafs. I was shocked by how many people there were in wheelchairs, and noticed that there are two dedicated car parks for people with disabilities - excellent that the authorities are providing for these needs, but sad that the need is there in such high numbers, and why should that be?
