Uploaded a few GPS traces a while back, tonight added to the map a farm track that is also a public footpath, running from Shelford/Stapleford east toward Babraham. It needs extending to Babraham and the bits and bobs around it need adding as yet...will trace and add them in due course. I learned how to add a bridge today. Hooray :)

Added a pharmacy down the street from my home (how come I didn't remember sooner??). Also a bunch of former names in my hometown area of Saint-Émile. The city has a very useful list database listing current and former street names (though it never says which segments were renamed, which makes it impossible for me to clear where exactly was the Rue du Parc). At some point I swear I'll take the time to map as much of it as I can Unfortunately, a significant chunk of the new developments north of De la Faune I can't map from Y!Maps imagery (thought they do show up on the satellite portion of G!maps, even though quite a few street names are missing).

Opinioni in merito?

I went out at lunch-time today to map some of the roads around where I work. There is a large area, off Topsham Road in Exeter, where there used to be a navy supply store. The land was bought by property developers Persimon a few years ago with a plan to build 600-700 houses, but there is nothing there, just the road leading into a flattened wasteland. There is a lonely little temporary office for selling these no-existent properties at the end of the road. It is a sign of the times, with the current financial crisis.

Thank you to everyone who has responded so far...

Following on from the responses generated last week I would like to ask some more questions to do with mapping parties and the social aspect of mapping:

1) How far will you/ have you travelled to attend a mapping party?

2) Do you feel OSM mapping parties form an important part of your social life?

3) Are you primarily concerned with the mapped progress of your local (home) area, or with the success of the OSM project in general?

If you would like to share your opinions with me, and contribute to my dissertation, please respond here or by messaging me via the site or at caroline.hangartner@student.manchester.ac.uk

Thanks again,

Caroline

For some time the C2C, Sustrans' most famous route, has been the most obvious omission from OpenCycleMap. Many of the long distance routes are now either complete or getting there - the Pennine Cycleway, Lon Las Cymru, the West Country Way, NCN 1, NCN 4 - but the C2C has remained only sporadically mapped.

When I tried to cycle the C2C the other year, I, er, fell off and mashed my face up. Other people are more competent than me and one chap has kindly allowed us to use his GPX tracklog.

So I've uploaded it and am working to map it with the help of NPE and existing, partly-tagged roads (ahem "only map places you've been" splutter). If you too are better at not falling off than I am, and have cycled the C2C, do join in.

I've already began, mostly in my own area: osm.org/?lat=40.64623&lon=22.9485&zoom=17&layers=B000FTF

but now I'm doing a bit in the center of the city: osm.org/?lat=40.634116&lon=22.94144&zoom=18&layers=B000FTF . I'm mostly interested in mapping buildings for the moment.

...since I have posted something here. I was busy

- going on holiday
- collecting data in the area of Wremen/Germany
- entering data
- programming my waycheck program version 2

The first reports (beta) have been done and can be found here: osm.wiki/index.php/DE:WayCheck

Look at check with number 11. I will do some international checks in the near future. All new reports will be generated using version 2b.

Cheers
