I went out on my daily ride today and mapped a stack of MTB/dirt bike trails. Most are either singletrack or heavily eroded wider tracks. There's a lot of damage done by the dirt bikes but it's council land so who's to stop them? It just makes it more technical :p.

There was one point where someone had built (what I'd class as) a massive jump. It goes over the Fernleigh track (the disused railway part) and is about 10m across with a 10m drop. You'd want to be going fast enough! A sort of chasm has been cut into the rock for the railway line so it's fairly sheer cliffs on both sides of the jump.

Shame I only just missed out on the Mapnik update, use osmarender if you want to view the trails.

There's a good chance I've missed a couple, but 90% of the tracks should be marked.

On my cycle back from the British Beer Festival (yes, a great time had by all - didn't quite find the Lonix meet but only heard about it an hr before and not the main reason, anyway, I digress), I made some notes about post/telephone boxes (including most of the postbox refs where possible. I've also happened around the same route since and finally got round to making the edits. I found a postbox without a ref - I kid you not! Corrected Rosenau Road->Crescent, different the other side of the junction; that had bugged me for a while. Added a pub and a church or two (Prince of Wales in particular, right on a not-amazingly-well-marked junction - very handy for locating yourself).

With phone-boxes, if they're all in a clump I've decided after checking existing tag use at http://etricceline.de/osm/Europe/En/tagname=value, that I would go with 'count=N' rather than anything else or put multiple nodes in at the same spot. I even have a few other telephone boxes (not on these trips but elsewhere SW London) that I've stopped to mark down the telephone number. Haven't come across any of those yet that I've seen, although it appears usage has been made of various phone number fields. I'm going with phone=+44-20-..... as per the general recommendation in the wiki.

The Cayman Islands are still broken, one week later.

Here's the current Mapnik render (look ma, no visible coastlines):
osm.org/?lat=19.258&lon=-81.264&zoom=11&layers=B00FTF

and the Osmarender (look ma, incorrect way directions):
osm.org/?lat=19.308&lon=-81.2&zoom=11&layers=0B0FTF

Osmarender looked fine last week (I think), but Mapnik render was still the same.
(previous diary entry, osm.org/user/lwu/diary/2810)

shadowjack merged the lines last week, apparently.

so i've been happily adding in postcodes that I know.

however when searching it seems osm doesnt' seem to search the postcode field, you just get the free the postcode results

however my home street which i post coded as i made it, osm search picks up, the search function returns my street name, i'm finding this a bit frustrating, as a delivery driver i've added in some unusual postcodes (ones that don't seem to be on any map/gps/royal mail/etc) that i've confirmed with the people who live their and added, however these don't seem to come back in the search results (the last edits i've done are over a month ago and still not showing up!)

slightly frustrated, and wondering if i should contiune adding little bits here and there, i've left it for well over a month now, but went down some nice ackward lanes to find some farms today and decided it would be a good idea to add them in (if only for myself in the future when i forget ware they are!)

I have not added a diary entry since I started 9 months ago. Since then I have been mapping in Bristol. Frenchay, Emmersons Green, Puckelchurch, To the west of Bristol south of the M4. I worked in Swindon so I also mapped most of West Swindon.
Recently, I got my Openmoko Freerunner. I am using tangogps with OSM maps on it.
After initial GPS problems, I managed to get data for footpaths at Begbrook Park.

Hi,
