Paignton Picture House opened in 1914. It is one of the most remarkable buildings in Torbay and one of the most important historic cinemas in the UK. World renowned author Agatha Christie regularly watched films from her favourite seat in the magnificent balcony.

This Grade II* cinema closed its doors in 1999, sitting empty within our community ever since. Subjected to years of dilapidation, it is now on Historic England’s “At Risk Register” and has significant vulnerabilities which could lead to the complete loss of use of the building.

The cinema is being restored and, with the help of our community, will reopen in 2026!

The project is led by Paignton Picture House Trust, a group of dedicated volunteers who are passionate about bringing the cinema back to life.
