On Clarkson Avenue near East 51st Street there were several businesses. The one I remember best was the barber shop (2nd store from the corner).

I lived in this building from the time I was born until I left for college. There were stores locted under the second floor on Clarkson (between the Utica Avenue corner and the entrance to 835 Clarkson). First, there was Nick's Greek Restaurant. Next to it was Rod's Beauty Parlor.

The last store on the block (Southwest intersection of Clarkson and East 51st street was a Kosher Delicatessen).

Next to the toy store was Mr. Katcher's tailor shop.

Next to the pool room was a toy store.

Next to the candy store on the corner was a pool room).

On the Southeast corner of the intersection of Clarkson and Utica was a candy store where we got our newspapers.
