Please do not change the status of US-522 BYP North (Berkeley Springs Bypass) between US-522 and Sugar Hollow Road to open. THIS IS NOT AN ERROR, the roadway is closed exactly as it is recorded here. Please read further for an explanation.

The West Virginia Department of Highways, has left the southern entrance of US-522 BYP (the Berkeley Springs Bypass) closed. The bypass is not fully constructed yet, and as such can't handle major traffic yet. The northern terminating section exits to a tertiary road with very narrow roads and sharp turns. It would be near impossible to safely navigate Fairfax Street, or Independence Street in a fully loaded truck or road tractor. Because of this the southern entrance is closed, however the southern exit is open for local traffic exiting to US-522. The entrance at Sugar Hollow Road is open allowing local traffic access.
