Basically, I have had the chance to tour cycle around Europe over three summers. in 2009, I travelled from Göteborg in Sweden To Soprabolzano in Italy via Denmark, Germany, Austria and Slovenia, while having a side trip through Bayern, Switzerland and along the Rhein. In 2010, I toured around southern Scandinavia, from Drammen near Oslo over the mountains to Bergen, then along the coast to Göteborg in Sweden, where I caught a ferry to Fredrikshavn in Denmark at cycled everywhere (almost) in Denmark until I made it to København. In 2011, I got to finished Denmark off, then did the southern coast of Sweden to Ystad, went across to Bornholm then to Rügen in Germany, finishing in Zielona Gora in Poland. These trips were influenced by day trips I did in the greater Melbourne area in 2006.

After returning to Australia, I have not had the chance to tour cycle, as the infrastructure is not there and I never felt safe on the roads. I have had the chance to do quite a bit of hiking here is Tasmania, a bike trip in Bali (Indonesia), a few bike trips around Melbourne, and car “road trips” around the east coast of Australia. The latter never had the same impact. However, things have changed: I want to continue tour cycling. The benefits are seeing country close up, meeting people, staying fit and living a carbon reduced lifestyle.

Now, I am volunteering my time with the Bicycle Network Tasmania, to map cycle routes, and bicycle infrastructure using Open Street Maps, which is allowing my to explore place to go here in Tasmania.
