Changeset When Comment
178947319

Two new topics in the wiki discussion:

osm.wiki/Talk:Tag:leisure%3Dgolf_course#Automated_edits_to_remove_leisure=pitch_+_sport=golf

178947319

Thanks for the help so far. I'll post on the wiki.

Depending on feedback, I can pull my changesets and manually revert if needed. While there were other fixes (e.g. typos) I should be able to key in on the main focus of each changeset and make the needed revert.

I appreciate the offer of help and I will take you up on it if I need it. I already feel bad for my misunderstanding. So I'll try to minimize additional impact on others for now :-)

Thanks again. I'll post the link to the discussion in the wiki shortly.

Hi, Glassman. Sorry for the confusion here. Regretfully, I mistook this for a blatant error. So I did not discuss first. I am waiting to make further edits, including reverting it, until I can get some input on the forums. There are a few other edits related to golf=* that are mentioned there as well. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Nothing reliable came up in searching for "CTLM". Do those other maps show who the operator is? I assume CTLM is the name of a building or business?

You commented there already. In case anyone else has input on these tags that the wiki says not to use on golf=*, the link to a forum post is below with further explanation.

Thanks for the info. I took this as a blatant fix that would not need discussion. Knowing about the "Any tags you like" will change how I treat obscure tags like this in the future.

I took this as a blatant fix, where no discussion would be needed. The wiki says "Do not use sport=golf or leisure=pitch" on features of a golf course. I came across enough that it made more sense to edit in an automated way.

If you think this warrants discussion, let me know. There are other areas I have not fixed yet.

Thanks for that link. That is new to me (or I forgot).

I did some looking around. There is no wiki info for finely_mown=* and it is used sporadically. It seems to be the same as grass=finely_mown which has more use and more closely matches other tagging schemas.

Thoughts on me going through this changeset to add grass=finely_mown where finely_mown=* was used?

When checking for the ID, it did not exist. I saw "We're sorry, we couldn't find a record with the feature id 2449866 in our system."

The record no longer exists for that ID on nationalmap.gov.

Hi, Truck-thin. Can you explain why you removed access=* and informal=* tags from trails here? One or more of them (e.g. way/1327258560) is on private property and is leading to trails that are not approved by the state park.

Thanks for the info. I was able to confirm and update name=* and ref=* for many buildings. The name was completely removed before since it did not seem reliable. It did not follow the correct naming convention described in the wiki for name=*, specifically under "Name is name only". Many of the names were descriptive. For example "Library LB 11" which was updated to the buildings name (i.e. Paul A. Elsner Library). With the info you provided I was also able to confirm the reference number (i.e. LB 11). I also see you recently added Mapillary imagery here. Thank you for that! That also helped me confirm many buildings ref=*. Some were not mapped before.

The info you linked to seems to confirm that many are descriptive names rather than an actual name of a building. But I have updated some with a name again. Some names on the site are the subject taught there, some are multiple offices within a building. A few are the actual name (e.g. Paul A. Elsner Library). A good example of how the "names" on that site are mainly descriptive is the one named "Vacant". But I was able to confirm from that site and with Mapillary that the building should have ref=26. The building number is on the side of the building like you said.

I'll take another look to see if there are any others I can update. If you have any questions, please take a look at name=* and ref=* in the wiki and let me know. Feel free to message me directly.

Naming both is redundant. Similar to giving buildings the same name as the surrounding way. If you feel strongly feel free to update as you see fit :-)

Learned some things. Including leisure=resort being a known issue (leisure=resort#Rendering)

Also with the site, I was able to tag the Retreat area at the south of the property. I am calling this good but I am on the fence about where to place the name now. Should I put the name on the campsite itself or leave it on the leisure=resort which is not rendered by some OSM's main renderer?

177968066

Well based on the info you provided, it definitely needs a little more fixing. :-)

But yeah, that is weird that leisure=resort is not rendered. The only reason I knew to point it out is because I remembered all of the similarly named things was confusing to sort out.

177968066

Thanks for letting me know. I'll take another look. It appeared to be a redundant name since it is within another way with a similar name (way/490782006). I'll take a look at the site and sort out what is what.

Thanks for catching. Fixed.

By the way, Its been a while since I read the wiki on turning loops. I should have done that before doing those edits. Sorry for the trouble.

It may not have been this changeset but most that I found today looked auto generated.
