当前对各级行政单位的标注，国内社区的共识和惯例是中心的 place 节点 + 作为行政管辖范围的 boundary 关系。place 节点用于渲染名字和表现无指定边界的人口集中区域（即“镇中心”或“村中心”）。boundary 关系用于划定指定的行政范围（通常远大于“村中心”的含义）。

如果要表示建成区域，建议使用 landuse=residential；将 place 用在区域上仅在“超出这个区域就不能叫这个名字时”才使用。

建议参考国内其他较为完善的地区的编辑惯例。我们可以在此或在社群进行更多讨论。

Please don't change the name tag written in the local language. Add name:en if you want an English name, and don't remove that tag even if the name tag is already written in English (see osm.wiki/Names#Localization). Also, the language code for Chinese is 'zh', not 'cn'.

By the way, we generally do not recommend adding transliterations of generic suffixes (such as xiang or zhen) as alt_name. This practice is not commonly used in other East Asian communities
(for example, Japan: node/734876463 Taiwan: node/60655866 Korea: node/415155962). We believe it is better to keep alt_name concise so that it reflects meaningful alternative names rather than structural or generic elements.

Thank you very much for your continued work in mapping these under‑mapped areas, we really appreciated that. But recently the China community have been discussing the proper use of the alt_name tag. According to the OSM wiki, alt_name is intended for “alternative names by which the feature is known in the local language,” so the values should be written in, and commonly used in, the local language.

With this in mind, we would be grateful if you could move English transliterations to alt_name:en instead. In addition, for Sino‑Tibetan languages, names typically use diphthongs or polysyllables. When only a single character remains after removing a generic suffix (for example, 恰 after removing 乡 from 恰乡), that form is generally not used as a name except as an acronym. In such cases, please avoid adding it to alt_name.

In this changeset I removed many alt_name tags that weren’t being used as true alternate names:

1. For Chinese alt_name values, these tags should represent names written in different characters, not simply the same name without generic names. I haven’t seen this kind of usage in Japan or other regions that use Chinese characters.

2. For transliterations other than pinyin, they aren’t commonly used in this region, and according to the OSM guidelines (osm.wiki/Names#When_to_avoid_transliteration) they should generally be avoided. If such transliterations are really needed, a new tag like name:en-<xx> or name:zh-<xx> may be more appropriate.
