I don't intend to mislead you - so I'll confess that I am NOT local to Mali. I'm armchair mapping from the US.

It's okay! We're obviously on the same page mentally. Love the work you've done on Bamako - it certainly has needed it.
I've been placing settlement names throughout Kati and Koulikoro cercles, but I don't have good data for Bamako city, so I'm largely leaving it alone.

Salut!
re: node/1051051796 node/1051051796
This is a crash SITE from 1983 - if there is a memorial there, fine - but I'm not on the ground to confirm that. But I think the "ruins" can be removed without a ground survey. Would you agree?

Salut! Please do not create place names with all CAPITAL LETTERS. First letter of each word capitalized - that is all.
DIALAYA -> non
Dialaya -> oui
Merçi!

And another note - to everyone here. I've found boundaries in Mali imported from maplibrary.org that are absolute junk.
I've come to the assumption that anything imported from that source is automatically suspect (at best), automatically false at worst.

@Richū I have seen some very talented and knowledgeable mappers kicked out of OSM because of attitudes like yours. Please understand that OSM is a "best effort" project - if an edit isn't perfect, you try to improve on the effort, not automatically delete or revert.
Everyone in this thread has the same goal - to get it right. But in the OSM world, that goal is a way, not just a node.
(Nice metaphor, eh?)

Sorry, to be clear - I meant deleting the buildings that are not in the more current imagery. The next project for the area will be a building mapping project for beginners.

91530300

Just so you know, the project did not include mapping of buildings, and MAXAR imagery was being used. You mapped buildings to out of date Bing imagery - do you want to fix it or have me delete the buildings?

Why are you merging "place" nodes into highways?

91868068

I see what you mean - Monzombala

91868068

Okay - I believe it should be good now

91868068

The unconnected intersections are from the way moving from its former position

91868068

Not sure what happened exactly, but the entirety of way/853247752 got moved about 60-70 meters north in this change. I'm fixing it - just thought you should know.

@cRaIgalLAn @ftcat @rab @Ruben Morgado
Would love to hear your feedback.
I have more to add on the Malawi side, but will leave it as is for now.
However, we can say for sure:
- US State Dept boundary data is not correct
- HDX data (from an unidentified agency in Moçambique) is not correct
- maplibrary data is not correct
It's truly a mess, but I firmly believe we can get it to a satisfactory level until an authoritative source is identified.

Okay here's my take - I continued the draft boundary from cRaIgalLAn and took it over to Malawi side.
changeset/91086581
I have more to add as well in the next few days.
So the HDX boundary data is NOT good, especially on Moç/Mal border in corner near Namitete. It goes onto the Malawi side of the arterial road, and it shouldn't. That is a Malawi highway.

90466535

Fortunately, HDX data is ODBL-usable!
I know that the district and posto boundaries are screwy on the ground as well - there are villages that one government agency says are in X district, and another agency says they're in the Y district next to it. It's been absolutely maddening to try and sort it out.

90466535

I'm honestly not sure what to do. HDX is very trustworthy, but sometimes their data comes from sources with "lazy data". I'd tend to trust what they have over what OSM has had (from maplibrary.org).
There's actually a THIRD boundary for Zambia/Moç in north Tete - someone is prepping a new boundary, but it's currently admin_level=15 for now. Maybe we can bring them into the discussion.

90466535

Bom dia Ruben! The Distrito boundaries you've placed do not match the Moçambique national boundary in OSM. Your source has to be more specific than "knowledge" if you're going to work with admin_level=2 boundaries. Can you show an authoritative source for your changes?
If so, you should merge the national boundaries into the Distrito boundaries you're creating.
I've suspected the Moç boundaries as OSM has them were incorrect - especially on the Malawi border.

Hi there! Please do not name anything in ALL CAPS! :)
